An analysis of benign prostatic hyperplasia surgical treatment reimbursement trends across Canada: Examining provincial changes over the recent decade with comparison to cost of living changes
CONCLUSIONS: The compensation model for endoscopic BPH surgery does not have a unified structure in Canada that is consistent across provinces, nor does it keep up with inflation, possibly impacting future recruitment, increasing geographic disparities, and most importantly, limiting the adoption of new BPH therapies.PMID:38587981 | DOI:10.5489/cuaj.8638 (Source: Canadian Urological Association Journal)

Assessment of interleukin 17A and 23 in the course of bladder cancer and selected benign urological diseases
J Physiol Pharmacol. 2023 Feb;75(1). doi: 10.26402/jpp.2024.1.08. Epub 2024 Apr 3.ABSTRACTSeveral cytokines have been indicated to be significantly involved in urological diseases. Interleukin 17A (IL-17A) and interleukin 23 (IL-23) have recently received attention for their involvement in inflammatory diseases and cancers. The aim of the study was to show changes in the level of pro-inflammatory interleukins IL-17A and IL-23 in patients with bladder cancer (BC) and selected urological diseases. An important cognitive aspect was to study the interdependencies between the studied interleukins and to assess their diagnostic ...

Occupational and Environmental Exposure Influences the Inflammatory (Pro-and Anti-) Status in Benign Prostate Hyperplasia and Prostate Carcinoma Patients: A Retrospective Analysis
Indian J Clin Biochem. 2024 Apr;39(2):241-247. doi: 10.1007/s12291-023-01112-9. Epub 2023 Jan 13.ABSTRACTMultiple diseases and disorders are connected with occupational and environmental exposure risk. It is also well-established that chemicals and chemical mixtures have an influence on the immune cells of humans. This is an important field of research that has been pursued extensively in relation to autoimmune illnesses, allergy/asthma, and lung cancer, but Prostate Carcinoma has received rare reports. Chronic chemical exposure is known to produce inflammation, which is one of the most prominent characteristics of all mal...

Water Vapor Therapy and Zonal Anatomy of the Prostate
Int Neurourol J. 2024 Mar;28(1):67-69. doi: 10.5213/inj.2346278.139. Epub 2024 Mar 31.ABSTRACTWater vapor therapy using Rezūm has been recently introduced as a minimally invasive surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia and is being increasingly performed. However, there is a lack of real-time images showing this practice and how convective water vapor acts in the prostate gland. In real-time ultrasonography, convective water vapor rapidly spreads throughout the ipsilateral transitional zone and is mostly limited within the transitional zone. For educational purposes, we would like to present a case to help readers unders...

Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia and the Risk of Falls in Older Men: Insights From a Population-Based Study on Geriatric Morbid Conditions
CONCLUSION: The findings indicate that BPH contributes to the incidence of falls among older men, particularly those with comorbid conditions. Considering the heightened fall risk among elderly individuals suffering from multiple morbidities, particularly those with BPH, targeted interventions are essential for mitigating the risk of falls in this vulnerable group.PMID:38569619 | PMC:PMC10990761 | DOI:10.5213/inj.2448064.032 (Source: International Neurourology Journal)
