Challenges of ASD when working with patients
As a medical student with mild ASD (when I was first diagnoses, Asperger's was still its own thing), I have some advantages and some disadvantages. The calm, data driven thought process I have is useful in understanding the science of medicine, but my difficulty in reading social cues makes patient interaction uncomfortable for me. I was wondering if any other students in a similar situation to mine had any luck finding any training or similar that they found helpful in improving their... Clinical pet peeves?
What are your clinical pet peeves? My top ones: -People being diagnosed with both MDD and bipolar disorder, without noting that bipolar also explains the MDEs. -Autism (ASD) diagnoses being given on parent report and/or brief, informal observation alone. -PTSD diagnoses with no index traumatic event noted. Revealing that I have Asperger's to my Autism Research Lab? Good or bad idea?
Every struggle I've had in my life can be traced back to Asperger's. It is by far the most important part of my identity. I don't have an official diagnosis as I am a broke college student, as many of us are. However, I have been active member of the Asperger's online community for a couple of years and I'm 99% sure I have it based on the diagnostic criteria we use and the behaviors I study. I can't decide whether or not to reveal this to other members of my lab or to use it on graduate... Revealing that I have Asperger's to my Autism Research Lab? Good or bad idea? Ask an OT about anything OT!
Hey guys! My name is Dan and I'm an OT over here in Maryland. I've seen and done just about the whole darn gamut in OT - I started out as an intern in forensic psych, got my first job in acute inpatient hospital working general surgery and abdominal surgery (with a geri-psych job on the side), and moved onto jobs in subacute rehabs, skilled nursing facilities, inpatient acute rehab, outpatient ortho/neuro, adult developmental disabilities, pediatrics (autism specifically), education, and now... high sGPA but low cGPA
I have a 3.06 GPA. I Haven't taken any pre-reqs. I currently work in mental/behavioral health, providing in home therapy for children with autism. This job has given me the oppertunity to serve many families in low income communities. I have shadowed a pedictiran as well as a psychiatrist. I have decided to go for medicine. Would a strong sGPA be enough to recover from a low cGPA? I live in southern California (inland empire). Thank you. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is PsyD a mistake?
I was just accepted into an APA accreditated Psy.D program, my goal since i took my first psychology class in high school. As proud of myself that i am, i am starting to question the worth of obtaining a Psy.D. While I am not 100% sure what my dream career would look like, I see myself working with kids on the autism spectrum on their anxiety. (I’ve worked in ABA therapy and see that while it helps them adjust their behaviors, it leaves them with alot of anxiety). While that seems to fit... Is PsyD a mistake? questions about diagnostic considerations
A while back, I had a patient that I was to see for behavioral treatment, purportedly. I later found out that the parent merely wanted a diagnosis of Autism to take to the school as part of an IEP dispute of some sort. I had entered a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder with intellectual impairment and language delay based on observations of the kid and parent's report. Fast forward about 9 months and school psychologist is on the phone with me giving me a hard time because the ADOS... questions about diagnostic considerations (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Behavior therapist and clinical experience
I'm currently working as a behavior interventionist. I work with autistic children and try to reinforce their good behaviors using ABA so that they can become functional in society. I have to abide by HIPAA when I'm working with my clients and I'm also learning quite a bit about Psychiatry. Will this count as clinical experience on my app? I do have clinical experience in the traditional setting (300hrs hospital volunteering + 50hrs shadowing). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can you honestly tell me how bad my current stats look in the long run?
And do schools take your situation into account? I'm 27, a divorcee with 3 kids 7 and under, the younger of whom are both non-verbal and have autism. My kids are in separate schools and we have no car so my GPA isn't what I'd hope because my schedule is insane... however, I still go to school full time and want to apply to Creighton for 2019. The plan is to cram and take the PTCE and then try to get experience this summer as a tech (I have no experience at all because I just dont have... Non Traditional Pre Med aiming for MD
Hi there, I am a 20 year old student with autism and epilepsy who wants to be a neurologist. I go to a community college and right now I have a 3.093 gpa and I am trying to raise it. I have 4 C'S in Pre calculus, Japanese, Intro Chem, General Chem 1, and I am struggling to not get a C in General Bio 1, the cell and molecular portion of general bio. I didn't have any intro bio course to help me with this, but I should do better. I have 64 units so far, and I am planning on going to CSUN for a... Grade/Curve?
Hi, I took an upper division psychology in the area of pathology (transnational relationship with family, relationships, and disorders i.e autism, depression, bipolar etc.) This class in the past 8 years thought by the same prof. the curve was 33-40% of students earn an A depending on the year. The syllabus did not contain what percentage was required to earn this grade, just a break down of the percentage of exams, assignments and participation. In my year, the curve was that 10%...
