Most Attractive Volunteer Specialty?
Hello, Everyone! I have a few clinics close to my college, and I am hoping to start volunteering at one this semester; I am curious if medical schools prefer experience in one type of practice over another. For example, volunteering at an emergency clinic versus a dermatology or internal medicine private practice. Does such a preference exist? Thank you so much for your time! In the past, I have worked for a Canadian Fertility Doctor, in an Autism Home, a Plastic Surgery Office, and for a... Most Attractive Volunteer Specialty? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Low GPA due to accident/illness- Is there still a chance?
Prior to a TBI I had a 4.0 and was very active in student leadership- including being president of my honor society, running for international office of that honor society, and being on student senate. I was already non-traditional in being in my 30's and being autistic, ADHD, and dyscalculic. I worked *very* hard with three tutors to get my A's in my math classes. After the accident I had to drop classes and my two I's became F's. I was hospitalized too much, that no matter how hard I... Low GPA due to accident/illness- Is there still a chance? Autism, Does Having it Help or Hinder?
Hey, I was diagnosed at 4 by a CHOP Neurologist. I was planning on writing about my experiences as apart of the secondary essays regarding adversity. Question is, does it matter? Is it URM? I know some people think of rain man, while others think of good doctor, but what do ADCOMs think? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Article arguing for more leniency for first time sex offenders with autism
When autistic people commit sexual crimes Many autistic people who are first-time sex offenders may not understand the laws they break. How should their crimes be treated? www.spectrumnews.org What do you all think of this? I'm wondering if there's actually any research on the idea that people with autism "don't know any better," aside from the usual standards like competency and NBGI. One thing that stood out to me was the guy featured in the article saying that he didn't realize that the... Article arguing for more leniency for first ...

Which Volunteer Opportunity to Take
Hey, I'm wondering which volunteer offer I should accept for this summer. Neither are directly focused on medicine (I’m volunteering at a hospital on the side). 1. Meals on Wheels: Visiting and interacting with the elderly. 2. Volunteer at a school’s summer camp: This summer camp is primarily for young kids who have disabilities (Downs, autism, half-body paralysis, etc). The camp is focused on playing with the kids and interacting with them and their families. There’s no therapy... Which Volunteer Opportunity to Take (Source: Student Doctor Network)

HELP: None of my most meaningful experiences are with healthcare
I haven't been able to find a clear cut answer here, but basically, none of my most meaningful experiences in my eyes are *directly* medically related. Is this...ok? Should I try to switch one out? They indirectly tie to healthcare, but I can definitely talk about some of my clinical or shadowing experience instead. 1. ROTC I cannot name another program that has tested me both physically and mentally like this program has. I plan on branching Medical Corps (obvi). 2. Autism Club Founder My...
