Autism be outta control. We have shut down all external referrals and made a waiting list. Just yesterday, I basically told a parent who had been on my schedule since april that they shouldn't drive from three hours away because their AP student's therapist think they might have a touch of the 'tism. I referred them to another place, after I explained that our facility generally focuses on kids with more severe needs and I generally focus on a more classic (read highly impairing)...

Has anyone seen an uptick in really bad autism evals? Is there any chattering about a position statement on pediatric autism evaluations?
With the influx of private equity and other funding moving into the autism space, my colleague and I have seen a massive uptick in bad autism evaluations. Lack of modern items in autism assessment. What behaviors would you include?
For example, it kinda drives me bonkers how most rating scales were developed before the iphone.
One common and high specificity behavior I see in autistic kids is repeatedly playing the same one or two bursts of a favorite clip on youtube on their phone/tablet. So a good question for a rating scale would say: How frequently does your child watch and repeat same short part of favorite clip on youtube? Or, How frequently does your child use your finger as a stylus to work a tablet?
