Differential Impact In Vivo of Pf4- ΔCre-Mediated and Gp1ba-ΔCre-Mediated Depletion of Cyclooxygenase-1 in Platelets in Mice
CONCLUSIONS: Both approaches to Cox-1 deletion similarly restrain thrombogenesis, but a differential impact on Cox-1-dependent prostanoid formation by the vasculature may contribute to an inflammatory phenotype and accelerated atherogenesis in Pf4-ΔCre mice.PMID:38660804 | DOI:10.1161/ATVBAHA.123.320295 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Safety and complications of continuation of aspirin therapy in patients undergoing robot-assisted laparoscopic simple prostatectomy
AbstractTo evaluate the safety and feasibility of continued perioperative aspirin at the time of robotic assisted simple prostatectomy (RASP). We performed a retrospective review of our IRB approved institutional database of patients who underwent RASP between 2013 and 2022. Comparative groups included patients taking aspirin in the perioperative period and those not taking aspirin pre-operatively. The primary outcome was any post-operative bleeding related complication using the modified Clavien –Dindo classification. Secondary outcomes included the identification of risk factors for increased blood loss in the entire s...

Limb Outcomes With Ticagrelor Plus Aspirin in Patients With Diabetes Mellitus and Atherosclerosis
CONCLUSIONS: Patients with T2DM and atherosclerosis are at high risk of limb events. Ticagrelor decreased this risk, but increased bleeding. Future trials evaluating the combination of ticagrelor and aspirin would further elucidate the benefit/risk of such therapy in patients with PAD, including those without coronary artery disease. (A Study Comparing Cardiovascular Effects of Ticagrelor Versus Placebo in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus [THEMIS]: NCT01991795).PMID:38658101 | DOI:10.1016/j.jacc.2024.03.377 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

The Association of CHADS-P2A2RC Risk Score With Clinical Outcomes in Patients Taking P2Y12 Inhibitor Monotherapy After 3 Months of Dual Antiplatelet Therapy Following Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
CONCLUSIONS: The CHADS-P2A2RC risk score is valuable in discriminating high-ischemic-risk patients. Even in such patients with a high risk of ischemic events, P2Y12 inhibitor monotherapy was associated with a lower incidence of bleeding without increased risk of ischemic events compared with prolonged DAPT.TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT02079194.PMID:38654565 | DOI:10.4070/kcj.2023.0268 (Source: Korean Circulation Journal)

Gender perspective in the care experience and in the results of patients who consult for chest pain in an emergency department
CONCLUSIONS: Gender did not affect precordial pain care, diagnosis, and treatment times, highlighting the quality of hospital care.PMID:38653253 | DOI:10.24875/ACM.23000212 (Source: Archivos de Cardiologia de Mexico)

Dual-pathway inhibition in patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia requiring reintervention for infrapopliteal occlusions
AbstractOur study aimed to assess the influence of incorporating new oral anticoagulant (NOAC) therapy on clinical outcomes among patients who underwent endovascular intervention for below-the-knee (BTK) occlusions necessitating reintervention. The inclusion criteria encompassed patients with chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) and had undergone a successful endovascular intervention for BTK artery occlusion, necessitating reintervention. Patients who underwent endovascular interventions for BTK reocclusion were compared to those who received dual-pathway inhibition with NOAC (rivaroxaban 2.5  mg 2 × 1) and clop...

Effects of Tirofiban on Neurological Deterioration in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke
This randomized clinical trial analyzes data for patients with acute noncardioembolic stroke who were given intravenous tirofiban within 24 hours of stroke onset to gauge its effect on early neurological deterioration compared with oral aspirin. (Source: JAMA Neurology)

Preoperative aspirin and anticoagulants do not affect partial nephrectomy bleeding
CONCLUSIONS: No difference in complication rate of partial nephrectomy was determined to be solely due to prior use of anticoagulation or aspirin use alone with appropriate cessation of anticoagulation preoperatively. Overall, patients on anticoagulation are not at a higher risk of intraoperative or postoperative bleeding complications when undergoing partial nephrectomy.PMID:38642461 (Source: Canadian Journal of Urology)

Deep terminal negative of the P wave in V1 and incidence of ischemic stroke: The atherosclerosis risk in communities (ARIC) study
CONCLUSION: DTNPV1 is significantly associated with higher risk of ischemic stroke. Since DTNPV1 is a simplified electrocardiographic parameter, it may help stroke prediction, a subject for further research.PMID:38636124 | DOI:10.1016/j.jelectrocard.2024.03.016 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Cancers, Vol. 16, Pages 1530: Colorectal Cancer: Epidemiology, Risk Factors, and Prevention
zadeh Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most common cancer and the second most common cause of cancer mortality worldwide. There are disparities in the epidemiology of CRC across different populations, most probably due to differences in exposure to lifestyle and environmental factors related to CRC. Prevention is the most effective method for controlling CRC. Primary prevention includes determining and avoiding modifiable risk factors (e.g., alcohol consumption, smoking, and dietary factors) as well as increasing protective factors (e.g., physical activity, aspirin). Further studies, especially randomized, controll...

Aspirin versus metformin in pregnancies at high risk of preterm pre-eclampsia in China (AVERT): protocol for a multicentre, double-blind, 3-arm randomised controlled trial
This study will compare the incidence of preterm-PE with delivery at <37 weeks’ gestation, as the primary outcome, of three different interventional groups: (1) aspirin 75 mg daily, (2) aspirin 150 mg daily and (3) aspirin 75 mg with metformin 1.5 g daily. 957 participants per treatment group are required to detect a significant difference of 59% in the reduction of the incidence of preterm-PE with 80% power and type I error of 5%. Pregnancy and neonatal outcomes will be collected and analysed. Ethics and dissemination Ethical approval for the study was obtained from the Joint Chinese University of Hong Kong&ndas...
