Molecules, Vol. 28, Pages 5061: Foegraecumoside O and P, a Pair of Triterpenoid Saponins with a 4/5/6 Fused Tricyclic Oleanane Carbon Skeleton from Lysimachia foenum-graecum Hance
Dong Liang Lysimachia foenum-graecum Hance (Primulaceae) is a medicinal plant used for cold, pain, ascariasis, etc., in China. Triterpenoid saponins have been found to be the main components of this genus. In this work, a pair of oleanane-type triterpenoid saponins with an unprecedented 4/5/6 fused tricyclic skeleton, foegraecumoside O (1) and foegraecumoside P (2) were isolated from the butanol fraction of the aerial parts of L. foenum-graecum. Their structures were determined using chemical methods and extensive spectroscopic analyses, along with quantum chemical calculations. Compound 2 displayed moderate cytotoxic...

The Relationship of Parasite Allergens to Allergic Diseases
AbstractPurpose of ReviewHelminth infections modify the natural history of allergic diseases, by either decreasing or increasing their symptoms. Several helminth components are involved in the increasing of the allergic response and symptoms, overcoming the concomitant immunosuppression of helminthiases. However, the role of individual IgE-binding molecules in this process remains to be defined.Recent FindingsWe updated the list of helminth allergens and IgE-binding molecules, their effects on asthma presentation, and their impact on allergy diagnosis. Data from genetic and epigenetic studies of ascariasis are analyzed. A ...

Necrotising pneumonia caused by Curvularia hawaiiensis (syn. Bipolaris hawaiiensis) and Mycobacterium tuberculosis coinfection in a patient with ascariasis: a case report and review
Curvularia hawaiiensis (formerly Bipolaris hawaiiensis) is a plant pathogen often isolated from soil and vegetative material. However, only a few cases of opportunistic invasive infections in humans have been des... (Source: Annals of Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobials)

Small bowel obstruction caused by massive ascariasis: two case reports
CONCLUSION: The type of surgery undertaken is determined by the results of the laparotomy. If the bowel was found to be intact and the obstruction was at the ileum level, milking worms to the cecum can be done with caution to avoid trauma to the bowel wall. Primary anastomosis after resection of a necrotic bowel segment and removal of the worm bolus is a suitable method for treatment of the ascariasis obstruction.PMID:36923774 | PMC:PMC10010792 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000000224 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Improving meat qualities of pigs after deworming against ascariasis with administered glycyrrhizic acid
J Environ Sci Health B. 2023 Mar 10:1-8. doi: 10.1080/03601234.2023.2186669. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe present paper describes the effect of glycyrrhizic acid contained in licorice roots on the quality of pork produced. The study uses advanced research methods as ion-exchange chromatography, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, drying of an average sample of muscle, and pressing method. The paper set out to investigate the effect of glycyrrhizic acid on the pig meat quality after deworming. Of particular concern is the animal body restoration after deworming that results in metabolic disorders. The nutrien...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 748: Unraveling the Complex Interconnection between Specific Inflammatory Signaling Pathways and Mechanisms Involved in HIV-Associated Colorectal Oncogenesis
ize-Kwitshana The advancement of HIV treatment has led to increased life expectancy. However, people living with HIV (PLWH) are at a higher risk of developing colorectal cancers. Chronic inflammation has a key role in oncogenesis, affecting the initiation, promotion, transformation, and advancement of the disease. PLWH are prone to opportunistic infections that trigger inflammation. It has been documented that 15–20% of cancers are triggered by infections, and this percentage is expected to be increased in HIV co-infections. The incidence of parasitic infections such as helminths, with Ascariasis being th...

An unusual presentation of diabetic ketoacidosis associated with ascariasis and fungal esophagitis: A case report
Rationale: Gastrointestinal symptoms are most commonly observed in patients with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), which usually resolves completely with therapy. However, gastrointestinal symptoms may persist after DKA is resolved. Patient concerns: A 22-year-old female was admitted to hospital for epigastric pain and persistent vomiting. The results of laboratory examination showed fungal esophagitis complicated by DKA. Diagnosis: The patient was diagnosed with DKA associated with ascariasis and fungal esophagitis Outcome: The patient was discharged after treatment Lessons: In this case, despit...

J Med Life. 2022 Oct;15(10):1278-1282. doi: 10.25122/jml-2022-0191.ABSTRACTRecently, many cases of mixed invasion by Giardia and ascarids have been registered. Gastrointestinal lesions in patients are often accompanied by dysbiotic changes. The aim was to study the effect of probiotics containing Saccharomyces bouvardias CNCM I-745 in the complex therapy of patients with giardiasis, ascariasis, and mixed invasion. 90 patients with giardiasis, ascariasis and mixed invasion were divided into 3 groups, depending on the type of invasion. Each group was divided into two subgroups, depending on the treatment (basic treatment and...
