Clinical and sociodemographic features of alopecia areata in five Colombian cities: an analysis of the RENAAC registry
Conclusions: AA was slightly predominant in women. As seen in other populations, this disease had an earlier onset in men vs women. Presentation in pediatric age was uncommon. The previous history of other dermatological diseases was checked in almost one third of the patients. Analysis of the co-presentation of AA with other autoimmune diseases is biased due to excluding patients with systemic erythematous lupus from the study.PMID:38395225 | DOI:10.1016/j.ad.2024.02.018 (Source: Actas Dermo-Sifiliograficas)

The role of laser and energy-assisted drug delivery in the treatment of alopecia
AbstractIt has been recently established that laser treatment can be combined with topical or intralesional medications to enhance the delivery of drugs and improve overall results in a variety of different dermatological disorders. The aim of this review is to evaluate the use of laser and energy-assisted drug delivery (LEADD) for the treatment of alopecia with a specific focus on ablative fractional lasers (AFL), non-ablative fractional lasers (NAFL), and radiofrequency microneedling (RFMN). A comprehensive PubMed search was performed in December 2022 for “laser-assisted drug delivery” as well as “laser” and “a...

Decreased CD19+CD24hiCD38hi Regulatory B cells in Alopecia Areata
Regulatory B cells (Bregs) produce anti-inflammatory factors, such as IL-10, IL-35, and TGF- β, and exert immunosuppressive effects in autoimmune diseases by inducing regulatory T cells.(Rosser and Mauri, 2015) Deficiency of Bregs, particularly the IL-10-producing subset, has been implicated in several autoimmune diseases involving cutaneous manifestations, such as lupus erythematosus, pso riasis and atopic dermatitis.(Wang et al., 2020) However, their role in alopecia areata (AA), an autoimmune disease involving hair follicles, is unclear. Dupliumab therapy for alopecia areata: a case series and review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: Overall, our research supports dupilumab as another candidate that possesses potential benefits for AA. High levels of IgE may be not prerequisites for dupilumab's successful treatment response.PMID:38342501 | DOI:10.1080/09546634.2024.2312245 (Source: Journal of Dermatological Treatment)
