MD after PhD in Chemistry
I am seriously considering attend a medical school after I'm done with my PhD in Chemistry. I have published in the #1 peer-reviewed ACS (American Chemical Society) journal in my field, (first authorship) and my ultimate goal is to publish in Science or Nature, or Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America (PNAS). The projects I'm currently working on right now is very close related to infectious diseases and drugs development. When I'm done with my... MD after PhD in Chemistry (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How Should I Tackle Biology?
I’m currently just over 2 weeks into Ari’s study schedule and I’m doing okay so far. However, as the chapters of biology are getting increasingly longer, I’m starting to think taking detailed notes on Feralis and Cliff’s is eating up too much time. I’m spending 6-7 hours on biology alone almost every day just to stay on schedule (this includes Khan Academy videos I watch for clarity). I often find myself studying until 1-2am because of it. At this rate, the chapter on “Animal Form and... How Should I Tackle Biology? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I have a chance at getting into a UC? Or USC?
I'm a junior at Beverly Hills High and my gpa is looking pretty iffy. In the low 3 range on a 4.0 scale (unweighted). My main problem is that I've always stretched myself too thin and taken a lot of honors/AP courses. Last year I got a 4 on AP Biology. This year I am taking AP Lang and AP US History. Next year I'll have AP Lit and AP Calculus, all with lots of honors courses sprinkled in. I'm also a part of my school's Medical Science Academy and have over 100 hours of volunteer experience... I'm thinking of becoming a police officer.
Hey y'all, for starters I wanted to be a cop before I even thought about medical school. I ended up going the medicine route (EMT, pre-med) after a life event that made me love medicine. I'm posting this in the non-trad side so older people can give their POV or if they have gone this route. I currently work as an EMT for an ambulance agency (IF/911) and the pay is just not enough. I want to apply for recruit position, man even the pay during the academy is a lot more than what I make now.... I'm thinking of becoming a police officer. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What are my chances - California resident
So I graduated in a year ago with sGPA - 3.2 cGPA -3.3 Scored 515 on MCAT I did about ~50 hours of shadowing M.D. (I did not had chance to meet D.O. yet) I am planning to go medical mission trip this summer. I have one summer lab experience. And mostly for EA, I tutored, worked in academies during summer and after graduation. Obviously, if I can't find D.O. to shadow, I cannot apply to any D.O. Schools that require a letter of recommendation from D.O.(My family lives in Korea, so I had... What are my chances - California resident (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Slow at Pat.
So, I noticed I am really really slow when it comes to PAT. Especially Keyholes, TFE, and (Pattern folding if it's the dice the almighty ) I can say I have seen all the strategy videos for now and I started practicing on generators. Finished keyhole for pat academy but didn't do the TFE yet there. I started using generators about a week ago. So I can say I am exposed to all of them, but each section I practiced almost 4 to five times. I spend around 2 hours each day on PAT. My question... Slow at Pat. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Khan Academy Operant Conditioning Questions
Hello all, I've never had problems with operant conditioning; however, I've missed 2 questions from Khan now pertaining to operant conditioning. One has to do with a patient finding relief from pain due to acupuncture and deciding to continue acupuncture as a result. I thought this was an example of positive punishment because acupuncture is being added in order to decrease pain; however they say negative reinforcement because pain is being removed and she decides to keep going to... How is this not availability heuristic?
Question from kahn academy is "Emily is addicted to heroin. Lately, she has been using much larger doses than she had been previously. When her counselor asked her if she was afraid of overdosing, Emily replied, “I had a friend who started shooting up at 15, shot up his whole life, and never had any problems.” What type of heuristic is Emily using to justify her drug usage?" Since this info is directly available to Emily from close to first-hand experience, I cannot grasp how... How is this not availability heuristic? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Self-Teach Physics for the 2017 MCAT
Hey guys and gals, just a general question over the physics portion of the new MCAT. I am currently planning on taking the MCAT in September of this year during the beginning of my junior year (2017). The only pre-requisite classes I have yet to take are Physics I/II. Other than that, I have completed all the major pre-requisites for the MCAT. I am wondering if self-teaching physics using the Khan academy videos and Kaplan book as a primary resources is feasible while studying the other... Desperately need help with how to study. All criticism (even harsh) welcomed
New to SDN, and thus desperate to reach out to an online audience. I haven't been doing well in my studies since I nearly failed twice. In undergrad I rarely read textbooks and did fine, graduated with a 3.7 GPA-- I mostly watched Khan academy and memorized powerpoints (via willpower, no anki) by going over them 6-7 times. Upon entering med school we mostly use powerpoints/lectures and sometimes classes are mandatory, but my studying style hasn't been very fruitful. There's... Desperately need help with how to study. Biochem pathways
I never took biochem II, so I never learned about metabolism. I studied for the mcat last summer and memorized some of the pathways, but have forgotten them (never ended up taking the exam). I am studying again now for my test in July, and I would not be able to tell you all of the intermediates in any of the pathways. I pretty much have just read through the BR chapters and watched khan academy videos, but I don't feel like I have retained much. I could probably analyze a pathway in a...
