Effects of mechanical stimuli on structure and organization of bone nanocomposites in rats with glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
Conclusions. The results of our investigation on animal model indicate that non-physiological vertical mechanical vibrations are an effective means to prevent loss of a mineral bone component during treatment with glucocorticoids. PMID: 33600670 [PubMed - in process] (Source: Endocrine Regulations)

Delayed administration of high dose human immunoglobulin G enhances recovery after traumatic cervical spinal cord injury by modulation of neuroinflammation and protection of the blood spinal cord barrier.
CONCLUSION: hIgG (2 g/kg) shows promise as a therapeutic approach for SCI. The anti-inflammatory effects mediated by hIgG (2 g/kg) in the injured spinal cord might be explained in twofold. First, hIgG might antagonize neutrophil infiltration into the spinal cord by co-localizing with endothelial cell ligands that mediate various steps in neutrophil extravasation. Second, hIgG could traffic neutrophils towards the spleen by increasing expression of neutrophil chemoattractants in the spleen and sera. Overall, we demonstrate that delayed administration of hIgG (2 g/kg) at 1 and 4-h post-injury enhances short-term and long-...

Quercetin Ameliorates Lipid and Apolipoprotein Profile in High-Dose Glucocorticoid Treated Rats
Conclusions These data suggest that quercetin intake with both doses of 50 and 150 mg/kg could be considered as a protective agent for glucocorticoid-induced dyslipidemia. (Arq Bras Cardiol. 2020; 115(1):102-108.) (Source: Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia)

Atypical primary pulmonary amyloidosis: A rare case report
Conclusion: This case clearly shows that it is difficult to distinguish tracheobronchial amyloidosis from other diseases with manifestations of cough, dyspnea and chest tightness because of their similar symptoms and imaging findings. Thus, the role of transbronchoscopic lung biopsy and histological examination in the diagnosis of tracheobronchial amyloidosis is very important. (Source: Medicine)

Methylprednisolone-Induced Hypersensitivity Reaction in a Liver Transplant Recipient.
Abstract Corticosteroids have an essential role as an immunosuppressive agent in transplant; because of their anti-inflammatory properties, they rarely cause an allergic reaction. Here, we report a liver transplant recipient who developed an allergic reaction to intravenous methylprednisolone sodium succinate. The deceased-donor orthotopic liver transplant recipient received intravenous methylprednisolone sodium succinate for induction during transplant, which was followed by another intravenous dose and oral prednisone taper. She was later treated with intravenous methylprednisolone sodium succinate taper...

Pharmacokinetics after Periocular Methylprednisolone Sodium Succinate Injection in Rabbit Eyes.
Authors: Lu HY, Wang RQ, Li X, Li X Abstract The present study aimed to determine the pharmacokinetics and distribution of methylprednisolone sodium succinate (MPSS) and its metabolic product methylprednisolone (MP) in plasma and ocular tissues after periocular injection of MPSS in rabbit eyes. Forty-eight healthy New Zealand white rabbits were randomly divided into 12 groups, including the control group and 11 MPSS-treated groups sampling at different time points. Rabbits in the MPSS-treated groups underwent left eye periocular injection of MPSS (10 mg). The pharmacokinetics of MPSS and MP in plasma and...

Methylprednisolone Reduces Persistent Post-ischemic Inflammation in a Rat Hypoxia-Ischemia Model of Perinatal Stroke
In conclusion, we demonstrated that administration of MPSS during the tertiary phase of perinatal stroke results in attenuation of the chroni c inflammatory response, leading to pathophysiological and functional recovery. This work validates the high clinical impact of MPSS to treat neonatal conditions linked to chronic inflammation. (Source: Translational Stroke Research)

Behçet's disease with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis and Aspergillus auriculatus infection: A case report
Rationale: Behçet's disease (BD) is an inflammatory disease that leads to multisystemic immune dysfunction and that involves pulmonary system alterations. Patient concerns: A 26-year-old woman presented with dull right chest pain for 30 days and intermittent cough with expectoration for 5 days. She had a history of recurrent oral ulcer and constitutional rash 2 months prior. Diagnoses: The patient was diagnosed with BD complicated by IPA and Aspergillus auriculatus infection. Interventions: The patient was administered itraconazole oral solution (200 mg b.i.d) to treat the fungal infection. After a diagnosis ...

Giant pyoderma gangrenosum in a patient with ulcerative colitis: A case report
Conclusion: Recognizing the clinical features of PG and its pathogenic nature, ensuring timely management fundamental for preventing severe destruction and deformity, and control of associated diseases are important aspects of treatment. Combination therapy is essential for PG patients with IBD. (Source: Medicine)

Acute diffuse edematous-hemorrhagic Epstein–Barr virus meningoencephalitis: A case report
Conclusion: The patient is an adult, and imaging was dominated by intracranial diffuse microhemorrhage and edema, which was different from the typical imaging characteristics of EBV encephalitis as previously reported. This specific imaging change may provide new clinical value for the diagnosis of EBV encephalitis. (Source: Medicine)

Preventive Effect of Changing Contrast Media in Patients With A Prior Mild Immediate Hypersensitivity Reaction to Gadolinium-Based Contrast Agent
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of changing the contrast agent and single-dose premedication for HSR recurrence prevention in patients with a history of mild immediate HSR to GBCA. Materials and Methods The outcomes of patients with mild immediate HSR to GBCA who subsequently underwent enhanced magnetic resonance imaging between October 2012 and July 2017 were analyzed. The institutional CM monitoring system was retrospectively reviewed, and data on the application of premedication and choice of CM were obtained. Gadolinium-based magnetic resonance contrast agents were classified into 3 classes according ...

Allopurinol-induced toxic epidermal necrolysis featuring almost 60% skin detachment
Rationale: Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a life-threatening, immunologically mediated, and usually drug-induced disease. Rarely, clinical pharmacists participating in finding the etiology have been reported. Patients concerns: A 33-year-old male presented to the emergency department with a 1-day history of fever and rash. The patient, being newly diagnosed with gout 10 days ago, received allopurinol at a dose of 250 mg by mouth daily. After 10 days’ exposure to allopurinol, the patient manifested with an “influenza-like” prodromal phase (fever of 38°C, throat pains), which was treated with amoxicillin a...

[Clinical and inflammatory phenotypic features of asthmatic patients sensitive to cold stimulation].
CONCLUSIONS: The cold-sensitive asthmatic patients experience frequent recurrent and/or aggravated symptoms and have obvious lung function impairment. Different from that in patients with classic asthma, the airway inflammatory phenotype in these patients is characterized by the domination by neutrophilic subtype.
