Milk and dairy products can help prevent chronic disease

(University of Granada) Á ngel Gil, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Granada, has recently coordinated a study reviewing worldwide scientific literature on the role of dairy products in health and in the prevention of chronic diseases (cardiovascular, metabolic syndrome, colon or bladder cancer, and type 2 diabetes). The review also covers the effects of dairy products on growth, bone mineral density, generation of muscle mass, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Authors: Mjaess G, Karam A, Aoun F, Albisinni S, Roumeguère T Abstract COVID-19 is the pandemic that hit the world starting December 2019. Recent studies and international statistics have shown an increased prevalence, morbidity as well as mortality of this disease in male patients compared to female patients. The aim of this brief communication is to describe the pathophysiology of this sex-discrepancy, based on the infectivity mechanism of the coronavirus including the Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2 (ACE2), the Type II transmembrane Serine Protease (TMPRSS2), and the androgen receptor. This could help und...

AbstractBackgroundThe aim of the study was to determine factors predicting lymph node metastasis in patients with T1 or T2 colon cancer.MethodsA total of 906 patients with T1 or T2 colon cancer who underwent colon resection with regional lymphadenectomy in a tertiary hospital, from January 2008 to December 2013, were analyzed. The prognostic factors for LN metastasis and the risk factors for survival were analyzed.ResultsThere were 728 patients (80.4%) without lymph node metastasis (LN-negative group) and 178 patients (19.6%) with lymph node metastasis (LN-positive group). Tumor invasion depth (P

SummaryChemotherapy has always been the first therapeutic option for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with untreatable oncogenic mutations. However, chemotherapy has demonstrated limited success and is associated with severe side effects. This research aimed to investigate the antitumor efficacy and cytotoxic safety of the conjugate ZHER2:V2-pemetrexed, a novel targeted chemotherapeutic drug. In this context, human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)  + A549 lung xenografts were treated using ZHER2:V2-pemetrexed, pemetrexed or physiological saline. Therapeutic efficacy was monit...

This study provides new information on the cellular effects of 1,3,5-triazine nitrogen mustards with different peptide groups in DLD and Ht-29 human colon cancer cell lines. A novel series of 2,4,6-trisubstituted 1,3,5-triazine derivatives bearing 2-chloroethyl and oligopeptide moieties was designed and synthesized. The most cytotoxic derivative was triazine with an Ala-Ala-OMe substituent on the ring (compound7b). This compound induced time- and dose-dependent cytotoxicity in the DLD-1 and HT-29 colon cancer cell lines. The triazine derivative furthermore induced apoptosis through intracellular signaling pathway attenuati...
