Molecular characterization of viruses associated to leaf curl disease complex on zucchini squash in Iraq reveals Deng primer set could distinguish between New and Old World Begomoviruses
In this study, we characterized the begomoviruses responsible for SqLCD symptoms and economic losses in zucchini major growing area near Baghdad and Babylon provinces. PCR amplification was performed to screen for begomovirus infection using Deng (a begomovirus specific) primer set. Sequence comparison confirmed the detection of two begomoviruses; Tomato leaf curl Palampur virus (ToLCPMV) and Squash leaf curl virus (SLCuV), in symptomatic zucchini samples when shared 99.14 and 99.50% maximum nucleotide (nt) identities with coat protein CP gene, respectively. All samples collected from Baghdad/Al-Jadriya were ToLCPMV infect...

Interspecific Recombination Between Zucchini Tigre Mosaic Virus and Papaya Ringspot Virus Infecting Cucurbits in China
Recombination drives evolution of single-stranded RNA viruses and contributes to virus adaptation to new hosts and environmental conditions. Intraspecific recombinants are common in potyviruses, the largest family of single-stranded RNA viruses, whereas interspecific recombinants are rare. Here, we report an interspecific recombination event between papaya ringspot potyvirus (PRSV) and zucchini tigre mosaic potyvirus (ZTMV), two potyviruses infecting cucurbit crops and sharing similar biological characteristics and close phylogenetic relationship. The PRSV-ZTMV recombinants were detected through small RNA sequencing of vir...

Management of childhood-onset craniopharyngioma in Italy: A multicenter seven year follow-up study of 145 patients
CONCLUSIONS: CP is often diagnosed late also in Italy with TC more frequent than TS surgical approach. Post-surgery complications were not rare and hypopituitarism developed almost in all cases. BMI shows a tendency to increase overtime.PMID:34718649 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgab784 (Source: The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism)

Behavior of the Uptake of Ibuprofen in Five Varieties of Horticultural Crops Irrigated with Regenerated Water
Bull Environ Contam Toxicol. 2021 Oct 25. doi: 10.1007/s00128-021-03387-1. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe current use of regenerated water in agriculture has led to the emergence of new forms of pollutants, such as pharmaceutical compounds (PCs) which are not fully eliminated in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Therefore, if the effluents of such WWTPs are to be used for agricultural irrigation, the presence of PCs must be analysed and their concentrations determined. The main objective of this study was to evaluate the uptake of ibuprofen (IBP) in horticultural crops irrigated with WWTP effluents and its subsequent...

Arsenic and trace metal concentrations in different vegetable types and assessment of health risks from their consumption
Environ Res. 2021 Oct 20:112252. doi: 10.1016/j.envres.2021.112252. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe levels of 12 trace metal (loid)s (TMs) in 10 vegetable types including leafy vegetables (purslane, purple basil and parsley) and fruiting vegetables (pepper, tomato, eggplant, cucumber, zucchini, green bean and melon) and in maize grown in Malatya province (Turkey) were investigated and non-carcinogenic health risks from consumption of these crops were assessed. The levels of TMs were measured by inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry. The mean levels of Ni, Cu, Cd, Cr, As and Zn in all crops were below m...

Transient central precocious puberty: a new entity among the spectrum of precocious puberty?
Recently, we observed some cases of Precocious Puberty (PP) with a partial central activation of hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis that tended to normalized in 6 –12 months. To evaluate the frequency of... (Source: Italian Journal of Pediatrics)

Distal Fibula Reconstruction in Primary Malignant Tumours
Conclusions: After DF resection, the restoration of ankle biomechanics gives acceptable functional results, but a larger series of patients with long-time follow-up are required to confirm the durability of the reconstruction.PMID:34590617 | PMC:PMC8482106 | DOI:10.3390/curroncol28050299 (Source: Current Oncology)
