Acne caused by ziprasidone in a young patient with bipolar disorder: A case report
ConclusionWhen prescribing ziprasidone to young people with bipolar disorder, clinicians should consider the potential for adverse skin reactions. It may be useful to assay levels of inflammatory markers during ziprasidone therapy and adjust the dose if necessary in order to ensure treatment compliance. (Source: Frontiers in Psychiatry)

Effects of Age, Sex, and Comedication on the Plasma Concentrations of Olanzapine in Chinese Patients With Schizophrenia Based on Therapeutic Drug Monitoring Data
Conclusions The administered drug's dose was identified as an important determinant of the achieved OLA plasma concentration, with a positive correlation. The patients' sex and valproate (or lithium) comedication can significantly affect the C/D of OLA. Therapeutic drug monitoring should be routinely applied in cases of OLA-receiving patients with schizophrenia. (Source: Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology)

In vitro degradation of ziprasidone in human whole blood
AbstractA systematic study was performed into the degradation of ziprasidone in simulated postmortem blood. Fifteen potential degradation products not previously reported in the literature were observed. Four resulted from degradation in human blood, while the remaining products resulted from reaction with solvents: four from alkaline degradation, four from reaction with acetaldehyde, and three from reaction with acetone. To identify possible degradation products a liquid chromatograph-diode array detector (LC-DAD) and liquid chromatograph quadrupole-time-of-flight mass spectrometer (LC-QTOF-MS) operating in auto-MS/MS mod...

A cumulative Bayesian network meta-analysis on the comparative efficacy of pharmacotherapies for mania over the last 40  years
ConclusionsOverall, tamoxifen appears to be the most effective of the currently known pharmaceutical therapy available to treat acute mania or manic episodes; however, this conclusion is restricted by the scale of RCTs conducted, and risperidone was found to be the most effective medication among antipsychotics. Carbamazepine, haloperidol, ziprasidone, cariprazine, olanzapine, quetiapine, aripiprazole, lithium, paliperidone, asenapine, and divalproex were noticeably effective in treating acute mania or manic episodes. Efficacy and acceptability of second-generation antipsychotics with antidepressants in unipolar depression augmentation: a systematic review and network meta-analysis
Psychol Med. 2022 Aug 22:1-8. doi: 10.1017/S0033291722001246. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPharmacological treatment of major depressive disorder is often inefficient, and multiple strategies are used for inadequate response to antidepressants. Second-generation antipsychotics are used as augmentation measures in clinical practice; evidence of their efficacy and acceptability is insufficient, and it remains confusing as to which drug should be selected first. In this systematic review and network meta-analysis, we included randomised controlled trials of second-generation antipsychotics used as adjunctive treatment in pat...

Are antipsychotics effective adjunctive Tx for patients with moderate-to-severe depression?
J Fam Pract. 2022 Jul;71(6):E13-E15. doi: 10.12788/jfp.0445.ABSTRACTYES. Augmentation with second generation antipsychotics, especially aripiprazole and quetiapine, appears to be effective in patients with moderate-to-severe depression who have had a suboptimal response to a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor or a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (strength of recommendation [SOR]: A, based on a systematic review of randomized controlled trials [RCTs] and an individual RCT). Augmenting antidepressant therapy with cariprazine, ziprasidone, or olanzapine also appears to improve depressive symptoms over the shor...
