Phospholipid binding of the dengue virus envelope E protein segment containing the conserved His residue
Biochim Biophys Acta Biomembr. 2023 Jul 10:184198. doi: 10.1016/j.bbamem.2023.184198. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTFlaviviruses encompass many important human pathogens, including Dengue, Zika, West Nile, Yellow fever, Japanese encephalitis, and Tick-borne encephalitis viruses as well as several emerging viruses that affect millions of people worldwide. They enter cells by endocytosis, fusing their membrane with the late endosomal one in a pH-dependent manner, so membrane fusion is one of the main targets for obtaining new antiviral inhibitors. The envelope E protein, a class II membrane fusion protein, is responsible for...

Study protocol for a cluster-randomised controlled trial of hybrid parents and health workers adaptive intervention for optimal routine childhood immunisation coverage in the communities of Ebonyi state, Nigeria: the AGINTOPIC trial protocol
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of hybrid parents and health workers adaptive intervention in increasing the optimal/timely (cumulative age-appropriate) routine childhood immunisation coverage in the communities in Ebonyi state, Nigeria. Methods and analyses A two-arm, parallel, open label, covariate-constrained cluster-randomised controlled trial with 1:1 allocation of 16 geographical clusters (the nearest catchment areas for at least one public primary healthcare (PHC) facility with at least 500 households or a population size of 3000) will be used to evaluate the effects of hybrid/combined parents and PHC...

Knife's edge: Balancing immunogenicity and reactogenicity in mRNA vaccines
Exp Mol Med. 2023 Jul 10. doi: 10.1038/s12276-023-00999-x. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTSince the discovery of messenger RNA (mRNA), there have been tremendous efforts to wield them in the development of therapeutics and vaccines. During the COVID-19 pandemic, two mRNA vaccines were developed and approved in record-breaking time, revolutionizing the vaccine development landscape. Although first-generation COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have demonstrated over 90% efficacy, alongside strong immunogenicity in humoral and cell-mediated immune responses, their durability has lagged compared to long-lived vaccines, such as the yellow f...

Frequency of allergic reactions in egg allergic patients after receiving the yellow fever vaccine
CONCLUSIONS: YFV did not trigger allergic reactions in EAP without history of egg-anaphylaxis. With further research, safe single-dose vaccination to this population could be considered; however, patients with previous egg-anaphylaxis should be evaluated by an allergist before vaccination.PMID:37422790 | DOI:10.15586/aei.v51i4.850 (Source: Allergologia et Immunopathologia)
