Gorgas Memorial Institute Research Award
General William Crawford Gorgas (1854 – 1920), a tropical medicine pioneer and native Alabamian, was a U.S. Army physician who managed control efforts of yellow fever, malaria and other diseases during the building of the Panama Canal. From 1914-1918 General Gorgas served as the U.S. Army Surgeon General.
