Vitamin D and calcium intakes in general pediatric populations: A French expert consensus paper
CONCLUSION: This consensus document was developed to provide guidance to health care professionals on the use of nutritional vitamin D and dietary modalities to achieve the recommended calcium intakes in general pediatric populations. These CPPs will be revised periodically. Research recommendations to study key vitamin D outcome measures in children are also suggested.PMID:35305879 | DOI:10.1016/j.arcped.2022.02.008 (Source: Archives de Pediatrie)

Effects of high- vs low-dose native vitamin D on albuminuria and the renin –angiotensin–aldosterone system: a randomized pilot study
ConclusionsWe found a small ( − 15%) but significant decrease in albuminuria after high dose vitamin D supplementation. We found no effect of vitamin D repletion on blood pressure and the systemic RAS, concordant with recent clinical studies. (Source: International Urology and Nephrology)

Comparison of the stability of CYP105A1 and its variants engineered for production of active forms of vitamin D
In this study, the stability of six CYP105A1 enzymes, including five variants (R73A/R84A, M239A, R73A/R84A/M239A ( = TriA), TriA/E90A, and TriA/E90D), were examined. Circular dichroism analysis revealed that M239A markedly reduces the enzyme stability. Protein fluorescence analysis disclosed that these mutations, especially M239A, induce large changes in the local conformation around Trp residues. Strong stabilizing effect of glycerol was observed. Non-denaturing PAGE analysis showed that CYP105A1 enzymes are prone to self-association. Fluorescence analysis using a hydrophobic probe 8-anilino-1-naphthalenesulfonic acid sug...

A vitamin D C/D ring-derived compound with cytotoxicity
AbstractStudy on the biological activity of compounds consisting only of the C/D ring of vitamin D has been very limited. We found that a synthetic C/D ring alcohol3 reduced the viability of HeLa cells. Compound3 was more active than vitamin D2 (VD2) against solid cancer cell lines HeLa and A549 (1 day incubation) and was a little weaker than VD2 against blood cancer cell lines KMS-12-PE and MT-2. Compound3 rapidly induced cell killing in A549 cells. This compound was compared with staurosporine and it seemed to have a different mechanism of cell killing. Compound3 did not show clear cytotoxicity to confluent cells that ha...

Sources of vitamin D for humans
Int J Vitam Nutr Res. 2021 Oct 18. doi: 10.1024/0300-9831/a000733. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACT Both vitamin D insufficiency and deficiency are now well-documented worldwide in relation to human health, and this has raised interest in vitamin D research. The aim of this article is therefore to review the literature on sources of vitamin D. It can be endogenously synthesised under ultraviolet B radiation in the skin, or ingested through dietary supplements and dietary sources, which include food of animal and plant origin, as well as fortified foods. Vitamin D is mainly found in two forms, D3 (cholecalciferol) and D2 (erg...
