Delayed cortical thinning in children and adolescents with prenatal alcohol exposure
CONCLUSIONS: Regional differences were seen longitudinally in the trajectory and timing of CT change in those with PAE, suggesting delayed cortical maturation and an atypical pattern of development compared to typically developing individuals. In addition, exploratory correlations analyses of SPC and EF performance suggest atypical brain-behavior relationships in PAE. The findings highlight the potential role of altered developmental timing of cortical maturation in contributing to long-term functional impairment in PAE.PMID:37132064 | DOI:10.1111/acer.15096 (Source: Alcoholism, Clinical and Experimental Research)

Engaging Public Health Alumni in the Tracking of Career Trends: Results From a Large-Scale Experiment on Survey Fielding Mode
CONCLUSIONS: Paper and mobile invitations had the highest response rates to our survey among public health alumni. Findings from this fielding mode experiment are relevant to schools and programs of public health seeking to capture similar information among their alumni, especially given current trends in investment in the public health workforce.PMID:37129371 | DOI:10.1177/00333549231168640 (Source: Public Health Reports)

Some Interpersonal Problems More Difficult to Treat in Teens With Depression, Small Study Finds
Teenagers with depression related to problems with “role transitions” (life changes that require a new role) may be less responsive to interpersonal psychotherapy than peers experiencing depression related to other interpersonal problems, areport in theAmerican Journal of Psychotherapy suggests.“[F]uture researchers and therapists might consider how IPT-A [interpersonal psychotherapy for adolescents] may need to be modified for individuals with the role transitions problem area to improve outcomes,” wrote Meredith Gunlick-Stoessel, Ph.D., of the University of Minnesota and colleagues. “For example, these adolesce...

National center for interprofessional practice and education 2023: reflecting back, looking forward
J Interprof Care. 2023 Apr 18:1-11. doi: 10.1080/13561820.2023.2197939. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe United States (US) National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education was funded at the University of Minnesota to serve as the National Coordinating Center for Interprofessional Education and Collaborative Practice (IPECP) in the US In 2012, the funders had specific expectations for operationalizing their vision that included scholarship, programs and leadership as an unbiased, neutral convener to align education with health system redesign. While US specific, the National Center benefited from and contribut...

1593 The senolytic flavonoid compound fisetin extends lifespan in murine recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa
The process of cellular senescence involves stable exit from the cell cycle with downstream induction of a pro-inflammatory secretory phenotype. Specific senescence targeting drugs, referred to as senolytics, have the capacity to induce apoptosis in senescent cells. Given the potential for an increased cellular senescent profile in Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa (RDEB), we questioned whether the senolytic preparation, fisetin, might prolong survival in a mouse model. An established hypomorphic mouse model of RDEB, on a hybrid background of C57BL/6:129sv, was used in concordance with University of Minnesota IACU...

Endothelial Dysfunction in Breast Cancer Survivors on Aromatase Inhibitors: Changes over Time
Conclusion Endovascular dysfunction is an early sign for atherosclerosis and vascular impairment. This study suggests that postmenopausal breast cancer survivors on aromatase inhibitor therapy develop endothelial dysfunction as early as six months which is a predictor of adverse CV disease. We hypothesize that long-term use of AIs can lead to persistent endothelial dysfunction. It is unclear if these changes are reversible once AI use is discontinued and further investigation is necessary.PMID:37066265 | PMC:PMC10104271 | DOI:10.21203/rs.3.rs-2758909/v1 (Source: Atherosclerosis)

Relationship between short-term self-reported dietary magnesium intake and whole blood ionized magnesium (iMg < sup > 2+ < /sup > ) or serum magnesium (s-Mg) concentrations
CONCLUSIONS: Whole blood iMg2+ and s-Mg concentrations do not reflect short-term self-reported dietary intake in adults. Further research is needed to determine whether blood biomarkers of magnesium may reflect dietary magnesium intake.Key messagesDietary intake of magnesium, a shortfall nutrient, may be objectively measured using blood biomarkers of magnesium.Serum magnesium and whole blood iMg2+ were not associated with short-term dietary intake of magnesium.PMID:37036758 | DOI:10.1080/07853890.2023.2195702 (Source: Annals of Medicine)
