Postpartum Opportunistic Salpingectomy Compared With Bilateral Tubal Ligation After Vaginal Delivery for Ovarian Cancer Risk Reduction: A Cost-Effectiveness Analysis
CONCLUSION: In patients undergoing sterilization immediately after vaginal deliveries, opportunistic salpingectomy is more cost effective and may be more cost saving than bilateral tubal ligation for reducing ovarian cancer risk.PMID:36897130 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005118 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Child-free by choice: providing permanent contraception to a nulliparous population
Intentionally child-free women and non-binary people with uteri can face barriers if seeking permanent contraception. Physician refusal to perform tubal sterilization due to concern for regret is a known phenomenon. We aimed to describe a growing population of nulliparous patients seeking permanent contraception at our site and its evolution over time as word-of-mouth spread about a child-free friendly physician offering services. Impact of race, insurance, and procedural timing on sterilization method
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths in women. Removing the entirety of the tubes appears more effective in reducing ovarian cancer development compared to other sterilization methods. It is thus recommended to perform salpingectomy (SL) rather than tubal ligation (TL) for cancer risk reduction. (Source: American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Getting Up to Date with What Works: A Systematic Review on the Effectiveness and Safety of Task Sharing of Modern Methods in Family Planning Services
CONCLUSION: The evidence suggests that self-injection of DMPA-SC and tubal ligation performed by associate clinicians are safe and effective. These findings should be complemented with the evidence on the feasibility and acceptability of task sharing of these methods. The review protocol was registered with PROSPERO CRD42021283336.PMID:36817856 | PMC:PMC9936454 | DOI:10.1155/2023/8735563 (Source: Biomed Res)

Stratifying the risk of ovarian cancer incidence by histologic subtypes in the Korean Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Study (Ko-EVE)
CONCLUSION: A heterogeneous association between some risk factors and the incidence of each subtype of epithelial OC was observed, suggesting that the carcinogenic mechanisms of each subtype may be partly different.PMID:36789760 | DOI:10.1002/cam4.5612 (Source: Cancer Control)

Imaginaries of a laparoscope: power, convenience, and sterilization in rural India
Anthropol Med. 2023 Jan 16:1-17. doi: 10.1080/13648470.2022.2152634. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLaparoscopic tubal ligation is the most prevalent method of contraception amongst India's rural and urban poor. Drawing on 18 months of ethnographic fieldwork in rural Rajasthan in 2012-2013, this paper investigates how rural women's perceptions of a biomedical instrument-the laparoscope-influence their perceptions of sterilization, a procedure often entrenched in coercive, target- and incentive-driven population control programme. By investigating how a laparoscope is entangled in global exchanges, national policies, institu...
