SALpingectomy for STERilisation (SALSTER): study protocol for a Swedish multicentre register-based randomised controlled trial
Introduction Salpingectomy is currently suggested as an alternative to tubal ligation for sterilisation. Precursor lesions of ovarian carcinoma can be found in the fallopian tubes; thus, salpingectomy could possibly reduce the incidence. Most of the existing trials on safety are small, on caesarean section and report on surrogate ovarian function measures. Randomised trials in laparoscopy are lacking. Well-designed trials are needed to evaluate safety of laparoscopic opportunistic salpingectomy. Methods and analysis In SALSTER, a national register-based randomised controlled non-inferiority trial, 968 women <50 years, ...

Explaining sex discrepancies in sterilization rates in the United States: An evidence ‐informed commentary
AbstractContextWith abortion no longer deemed a constitutional right in the United States (US), the importance of effective contraceptive methods cannot be overstated. Both male sterilization (vasectomy) and female sterilization (tubal ligation) have the lowest failure rates of available means of contraception. Despite the less invasive and reversible nature of vasectomy compared to tubal ligation procedures and even though some healthcare professionals dissuade certain women, especially those who are white and/or economically advantaged, from undergoing a sterilization procedure, female sterilization is approximately thre...

The time interval between laparoscopic tubal ligation and frozen-thawed embryo transfer does not affect the reproductive outcomes
Hydrosalpinx may decrease implantation and pregnancy rates after embryo transfer. Laparoscopic tubal ligation after embryo freeze and before frozen-thawed embryo transfer (FET) is effective at improving reprod... (Source: BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth)

Health insurance and contraceptive use, Indonesian Family Planning Census 2021
CONCLUSION: The prevalence of modern contraceptive use in Indonesia is lower than the 75% target of the 2030 sustainable development goals. As national health insurance positively correlated with modern contraceptive use, extending its coverage on remote Indonesian islands is recommended to increase the use of such contraceptive methods in those areas.PMID:37529022 | PMC:PMC10388140 | DOI:10.2471/BLT.22.289438 (Source: Bulletin of the World Health Organization)
