An Unusual Case of Treatment-naive HIV Patient Presenting with Acute Pancreatitis in Sepsis with Infective Endocarditis and Bilateral Pulmonary Thromboembolism
J Assoc Physicians India. 2024 Jan;72(1):96-98. doi: 10.59556/japi.71.0447.ABSTRACTAcute pancreatitis is seen in patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) as a result of antiretroviral drug therapy and hypertriglyceridemia. Thrombotic complications are known in patients of HIV as a result of endothelial dysfunction, and right-sided infective endocarditis (IE) is seen in HIV patients mostly due to intravenous (IV) drug abuse. However, the occurrence of acute pancreatitis with sepsis, IE, and bilateral thromboembolism in the same patient is rare. Here, we report this case of a treatment-naive nondrug abuser HIV patien...

Changes and significance of the fibrinolytic system following two pulmonary thromboembolisms in a rabbit model
In this study, we examined the changes in the fibrinolytic system in a rabbit model of two acute pulmonary thromboembolisms (PTE). Fourteen healthy adult New Zealand white rabbits were divided into three groups: the single PTE group (five rabbits), the double PTE group (five rabbits), and the control group (four rabbits). A rabbit model of acute pulmonary embolism was established, and immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were performed on tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA), plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 (PAI-1) in plasma, and pulmonary embolism tissue. Plasma results: 1) t-PA levels: one hour follo...

Early and mid-term outcomes of tricuspid valve surgery in patients with functional tricuspid regurgitation induced by atrial fibrillation
CONCLUSIONS: TV surgery for TR induced by AF showed low surgical mortality and favorable mid-term outcomes. For these patients, early surgery after progress to severe TR can be helpful to decrease the occurrence of TVRE.PMID:38738253 | PMC:PMC11087639 | DOI:10.21037/jtd-23-1776 (Source: Journal of Thoracic Disease)

Cardiovascular and physiological risk factors in women at midlife and beyond
Can J Physiol Pharmacol. 2024 May 13. doi: 10.1139/cjpp-2023-0468. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in women. After menopause, sex-specific and gender-specific factors may play an important role in increasing CVD risk, with changes in sex hormones, body fat distribution, lipid and metabolic profile, and structural and functional vascular modifications. Premature and early-onset menopause are detrimental to cardiovascular health due to the early cessation of the protective effect of endogenous estrogen. An independent association of menopause with an increased risk of ...
