Molecules, Vol. 29, Pages 2325: Advances in Nano-Functional Materials in Targeted Thrombolytic Drug Delivery
Cuiyan Han Bing Wei Thrombotic disease has been listed as the third most fatal vascular disease in the world. After decades of development, clinical thrombolytic drugs still cannot avoid the occurrence of adverse reactions such as bleeding. A number of studies have shown that the application of various nano-functional materials in thrombus-targeted drug delivery, combined with external stimuli, such as magnetic, near-infrared light, ultrasound, etc., enrich the drugs in the thrombus site and use the properties of nano-functional materials for collaborative thrombolysis, which can effectively reduce adverse reactions ...

Safety and efficacy of stent-assisted coil embolization with periprocedural dual antiplatelet therapy for the treatment of acutely ruptured intracranial aneurysms
ConclusionSAC  with periprocedural DAPT could be a safe and effective treatment strategy for acutely ruptured aneurysms. Moreover, it might have a protective effect on postprocedural cerebral infarction without increasing the risk of symptomatic hemorrhagic complications. (Source: Acta Neurochirurgica)

Update on Perioperative Antithrombotic Management
AbstractPurpose of the ReviewIn this review, we discuss the recent studies and recommendations on the perioperative management of oral anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs.Recent FindingsIn elective surgery, clear and simple recommendations exist for oral anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs. The shorter stopping intervals with direct-acting oral anticoagulants have simplified the perioperative management compared with vitamin K antagonists. The specific use of laboratory testing is suggested for bleeding patients treated with antithrombotic drugs or for emergent surgery. The postoperative prevention of thromboembolism ha...

Novel tubing connectors reduce ECMO circuit thrombosis
CONCLUSION: Both in vitro and in vivo validation experiments successfully recreated circuit thrombosis and demonstrate that the adoption of novel connectors can reduce the burden of circuit thrombosis.PMID:38742758 | DOI:10.1177/03913988241252255 (Source: The International Journal of Artificial Organs)

Tigecycline-Associated Hepatic Steatosis After Liver Transplant: A Case Report
We present 2 similar patients with hepatic steatosis possibly associated with early tigecycline after transplant. In the first case, a 61-year-old woman underwent liver transplant for acute severe hepatitis; 6 days posttransplant, because of nonroutine resistant fever, the patient received tigecycline combined with daptomycin. Retransplant was applied to the patient on day 12 posttransplant because of acute liver failure secondary to hepatic vein thrombosis. After retransplant, biochemical levels gradually increased, exceeding the upper limit of normal. In liver biopsy, the patient had macrovesicular steatosis in 70% to 80...

2024 Chinese expert consensus guidelines on the diagnosis and treatment of Atrial Fibrillation in the Elderly. Executive Summary
Thromb Haemost. 2024 May 14. doi: 10.1055/a-2325-5923. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe consensus guidelines of the Geriatric Society of Chinese Medical Association (GSCMA) on the management of atrial fibrillation (AF) in the elderly was first published in 2011 and updated in 2016, with endorsement by Chinese Society of Geriatric Health Medicine (CSGHM). Since then, many important studies regarding the screening and treatment in the elderly population have been reported, necessitating this updated expert consensus guidelines. The writing committee members comprehensively reviewed updated evidence pertaining to elderly pat...

Anticoagulant therapy in pregnant women with mechanical heart valves: Italian FCSA Position Paper
Thromb Haemost. 2024 May 14. doi: 10.1055/a-2325-5658. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe management of anticoagulant therapy in pregnant women with mechanical heart valves (MHVs) is difficult and often challenging even for clinicians experienced in the field. These pregnancies, indeed, are burdened with higher rates of complications for both the mother and the fetus, compared to those in women without MHVs. The maternal need for an optimal anticoagulation as provided by vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) is counterbalanced by their teratogen effect on the product of conception. On the other hand, several concerns have been raise...

Prophylactic Unfractionated Heparin in Antepartum Hospitalizations: A Randomized Controlled Trial
CONCLUSION: Gestational age-based dosing of UFH for thromboprophylaxis of antepartum hospitalizations was associated with significantly increased rates of elevated coagulation parameters compared with standard fixed dosing. This study suggests a need for close monitoring if higher doses of UFH during pregnancy are used later in gestation. The efficacy of gestational age-based dosing compared with standard dosing for UFH to prevent thromboembolic events remains an area for future investigation.CLINICAL TRIAL REGISTRATION: ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT04635839.PMID:38743958 | DOI:10.1097/AOG.0000000000005599 (Source: Obstetrics and Gynecology)
