Optimizing Venous Stenting: Consensus Recommendations for Enhanced Management of Lower Extremity Deep Vein Thrombosis
Conclusions These consensus recommendations offer practical insights into optimizing venous stent use to prevent PTS in DVT patients. Addressing the critical aspects of stent selection, placement, and postprocedural care, these recommendations contribute to clinical decision-making. The identified divergences underscore the importance of consensus and thus indicate the need for further investigation. In situ ascending aortic thrombus in a patient with metastatic lung adenocarcinoma and no aortic atherosclerosis or cisplatin exposure: a  case report
ConclusionTo our knowledge, this is the only case detailing anin situ ascending aortic thrombus in the setting of lung cancer, without structural risk factors, chemotherapy use, or other hypercoagulable comorbidities. Optimal management for an aortic thrombus and malignant disease is less clear. Clinicians should be vigilant for unusual arterial thromboses in patients with high metastatic burden. Activated charcoal helps in the diagnosis of dabigatran overdose: A  case study
Int J Clin Pharmacol Ther. 2024 May 10. doi: 10.5414/CP204493. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe direct-acting oral anticoagulant dabigatran etexilate (DE) targets thrombin and is used widely to prevent thromboembolism. A 79-year-old man was admitted to the Emergency Department due to anuria for 2 days. An urgent laboratory examination revealed a serum creatinine concentration of 888 µmol/L. He was diagnosed with acute exacerbation of chronic renal insufficiency. During continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), the coagulation test showed a severe reduction in the fibrinogen level as well as a significantly prolonged p...

Association between immigration status and total knee arthroplasty outcomes in Ontario, Canada: a population-based matched cohort study
CONCLUSION: Compared with Canadian-born patients, immigrants and refugees have favourable surgical outcomes and similar rates of resource utilization after TKA. We observed an underutilization of these procedures in Ontario relative to their proportion of the population. This may reflect differences in perceptions of chronic pain or barriers accessing arthroplasty.PMID:38729643 | PMC:PMC11090629 | DOI:10.1503/cjs.013723 (Source: Canadian Journal of Surgery)

Potential role of CTNNA3 and FRMPD4 in vascular tumorous thrombosis of colon adenocarcinoma
CONCLUSION: Our study suggests that CTNNA3 and FRMPD4 could be promising biomarkers for vascular tumorous thrombosis in colon adenocarcinoma, potentially enabling the identification of micrometastases in this type of cancer. These findings suggest a novel strategy for the detection and management of colon adenocarcinomas.PMID:38727409 | DOI:10.4103/ijpm.ijpm_288_23 (Source: Indian Journal of Pathology and Microbiology)

Intraluminal release of citrullinated histone 3 from various cellular origins coincides with microvascular thrombosis in burn wounds
This study investigates the presence of intraluminal citrullinated histone 3 (H3cit) from different cellular origins (neutrophils, monocytes, and lymphocytes) in relation to microvascular thrombosis of burn wounds. Eschar was obtained from burn patients (n = 18) 6-40 days postburn with a mean total burned body surface area of 23%. Microvascular presence of tissue factor (TF), factor XII (FXII) and thrombi was assessed by immunohistochemistry. Intramicrovascular cell death was analyzed via immunofluorescent microscopy, combining antibodies for neutrophils (MPO), monocytes (CD14), and lymphocytes (CD45) with endothelial cell...
