Preparing for D1
Hello! I am finishing my senior year of undergrad and beginning my D1 in the fall. I was wondering on how I could best prepare to get a jump on the game to make things a bit easier? A dentist said he would help teach me how to do a wax up. Is there some material I could preview over the summer to make things easier? (i.e. maybe there is a list of 100 drugs students struggle learning all at once and I could preview them over the summer or leaning all of the instruments, etc.). Also any... Question about fellowships
I was just thinking about the all too common scenario "what if the residency I go to doesn't end up teaching me the tools I want to succeed as a highly skilled podiatrist and surgeon". 1. Is there a difference between low tier and high tier residencies in terms of education of in clinic care, and also surgical care? If so, to what extent? Big difference or minor? 2. If one were to get a residency that is much more limited in surgery, etc. than other residencies, can one join a fellowship... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Old Queer non-trad Intro
Hi everyone! I'll be 41 when I graduate from my CC with a BAS in community health management. (3.5 gpa, strong upward trend) This will be my first undergrad degree and I'm very excited to have found my place. I've had so many jobs but the ones I enjoyed the most focused on wellness and education. I've been a vet tech, phlebotomist, pathology assistant, and a sex positive educator. I was a massage therapist and my passion for teaching others about their bodies and how to heal themselves... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Study help
Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone here can help me out. I’m currently in my second semester of PT school and I’m struggling big time in my neuroscience course. A lot of my classmates are also struggling, but not quite to my level. I’m kind of at a loss of what to do. To put things in perspective, I failed my first written exam for the course, retook it, and failed the retake. I also failed our first practical (wet lab) exam by 8 points. The way my professor teaches (blandly reading off of a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

A story of a second chance - Cheating IA (x2) and x3 MCAT retakes
TW: Suicide Me: MCAT 515 after three retakes, GPA: 3.7. I have four publications from my undergrad and gap years, Went to a top undergrad, cum laude, tutor, teaching assistant, etc, etc. To everyone around me for years, I was considered a model student. In fact, my department from undergrad awarded me the faculty award when I was graduating. People were absolutely sure that I was going to one day make something of myself. However, three years after graduation, I was still asking for... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Red Flag
Hey guys, I am curious to know where my circumstance stands as a red flag. I lived in Russia for two years as a religious service volunteer, and at the end of my mission, my partner and I were arrested by the local Russian police. They accused us of teaching english illegally without a license. We went to court, and the judge determined that we were guilty. We were held in a Russian detention center for three weeks until we were deported back home to the US. It's a long story but... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Making changes:private practice
I have complained about feeling ill-prepared for practice and having to teach myself a lot. My confidence was down. I started purchasing digital streaming trainings from various sources and contacted my school advisor. He agreed to supervise me for a period of time and has been walking me through my perceived areas of weakness. I’m still working with him. My dream had always been to open my own practice and so I did it. When my advisor’s supervision runs out, I will pay for more. This has... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Any thoughts on how to make extra income as a resident
Currently a junior resident in a surgical subspecialty. Doing everything I can to put money in a 401k and an IRA. Being responsible doesn't leave that much extra income for trips or fun activities with the COL in my area. Our program doesn't allow moonlighting and I probably wouldn't have the time to do shifts at an outside hospital anyway. Does any know ways to make some extra income as a resident aside from tutoring or teaching that could be fit into a busy schedule (I did a lot of... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

The myth of a tough preceptor
This isn't a brand new article, but I felt it is good to share. To many of the preceptors I have met over the year try so hard to be "the tough ones". I have never felt that was necessary - I teach practical knowledge, I do hold people to high standards (attendance, deadlines, etc) - but never chastise them for getting the wrong answer. I feel pharmacy is very bad at what is talked about here. thoughts? The Myth of the Tough Preceptor — The Overrun I had a reputation as a tough preceptor. I was the one that people either sough...
