Nova Southeastern University OTD
To anyone filling out applications and deciding on schools to apply to on OTCAS: I would highly suggest you ask many questions when applying and choosing schools. I attended Nova Southeastern University this summer and left because everything they told me when I accepted my admission was a lie and a show. They were unsupportive, unorganized, and I felt the professors did not think I had any potential. One of them even told me to possibly change my career to possibly teaching because of my... How did you feel after leaving academia for private practice?
I currently am junior faculty at a major academic institution, making above the AAMC average for my rank (although not nearly as much as I could in PP). I do a mix of inpatient/outpatient, small amount of neuromodulation, and teaching. Compared to my colleagues, I probably have a better work/life balance in terms of the mix of things that I do. That being said, I still cover several weeks and do call throughout the year. Lately, the acuity has started to be quite draining and now a few years... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Stop using students for free labor
On my extrenships I’ve learned so much. I’m thankful, one of the most important things I’ve learned is how to treat fellow student when I have the privilege of teaching. Rules to live by: 1) don’t use us as scribes to chart all day everyday 2) don’t pimp us for your amusement 3) don’t use us as retraction monkeys 4) don’t use us to room patient 5) don’t use us to remove dressings 6) don’t use us as free nail nippers After 2 weeks of all of the above; attending need to have confidence that... Which should I include for most meaningful experiences?
I am stuck on my third meaningful experience for AMCAS app. My first two are primary care scribing and shadowing an OB/GN. Im between a cooking class i taught (25 hr) vs. independent qualitative research (300 hrs). I really enjoyed teaching the cooking class at a free clinic and it was very rewarding, but not sure if i should include something with more hours instead. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need help from ER Doctors
Hi, I am trying to reach out to the community at large. Is there currently in practice, in teaching, in mentorship, taught in medical school, or any textbook of emergency medicine a golden sign for dehydration? or a golden sign for hypovolemic shock? this would be something similar to what beck's triad and cushing's triad is. Should I list a teaching position that I quit? (URGENT)
Hi guys, I did a program similar to Teach for America (but not that one) overseas. I was placed by a larger centralized organization at a specific school, where I did not get along well with the staff. It was a mix of it being my first job (I was often late, which I really regret), language/cultural misunderstandings, and discrimination as a direct supervisor took issue with my sexuality and singled me out because of it. Since it was my first job, I reacted to this situation largely by... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Academic EM in a large east coast city (say NYC)
Hey folks. As someone who has fallen absolutely in love with EM and can't get enough of it, who is also interested in teaching/research/leading, AND who wants to stay in their home city of NYC what does that career trajectory entail? I've heard from some folks dual boarding like an EM/IM program is useful. I'm interested from hearing the folks currently in the field, thanks!! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Night Shift/3rd Shift Hospital Inpatient Pharmacists
Where are my fellow 3rd shift pharmacists at? I work in a teaching hospital that is a level 1 trauma center that has 500+ beds. We also cover our psych hospital that isn't on campus but will be come this fall. We only have 2 pharmacists on duty at night and 3 techs. We (pharmacists) work seven 10-hour shifts (either 2100-0700 or 2200-0800), then have 7 days off. I feel like 3rd shift I learn the most on, as I've worked all shifts in this hospital. We also do not have an ER pharmacist at... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
