This is the stuff they teach in medical school now
Washington U lecturer warns medical students not to ‘debate’ her on ‘systemic oppression': 'shut that' down | Fox News A Washington University in St. Louis’ medical school lecturer told students that if anyone tried to "fight or debate" her on "systemic oppression," she would would shut it down. www.foxnews.com I don’t even understand why this is considered remotely part of any medical curriculum. Can’t we just say that racial disparities in outcomes exist and to be aware of that — and not move to ...

Community dentistry: Procedures and Reality of the Position
This is addressed to those who either currently do, or did, work at a "community health center". I have a list of some questions, and if anyone could, please respond. Also, if there are any further websites anyone knows about (I have looked but have not been successful) that can teach me more about community dentistry, this would also be appreciated: -What are the common procedures? -Are there some clinics where the procedures boil down to just restorations, extractions (both surgical and... Rank list guidance
Hi all. I’ve been fortunate to receive some terrific interviews for ophtho residency this season and would appreciate some guidance from this community. For reference, my career goal is to join or start my own private practice, or work in a privademic setting as I enjoy teaching. I’m likely to pursue subspecialty training and am most interested in medical or surgical retina at this point. I would like to keep traditional academic options open, but leaning against that route at this point... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Need opinions on if I should skip or take this prerequisite course.
I am practically done with all of my prerequisite's and am pretty much going to graduate next semester. The problem though is that for my final semester in the spring I was wondering if I should take biochemistry or skip it? I want to take the course, and of course the more pre-reqs completed, the better your opportunities are for picking schools. However, only one professor is teaches the course in the school every semester and a lot of the former students of his are saying that he is a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hierarchy in medicine - a free pass to humiliate?
Today I had to call a the Assistant clinical professor at his medical Center to ask about a patient. He was so pissed that I had introduced myself as, “I’m calling from IM” at the front desk even though to him I introduced myself as a medical student. He kept screaming about how it was dishonest and that no one teaches us about it and then won’t have it when I apologised and repeated what he had asked me to say. He was sO loud and used a very condescending tone. It was so humiliating. I had... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do I need to plan on reapplying?
Maybe I just need to get off SDN and reddit. But I'm starting to wonder if I need to plan on reapplying. I have a 514/3.99, so I don't imagine stats are the problem. I've gotten 2 II's. 1 turned into a WL, and the other one I won't hear back about until December. I have solid hours in seemingly every activity one would need and wrote passionately - clinical experience, clinical volunteering, leadership, teaching, fun hobbies, unique activities. Had lots of help with... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I am interested in leaving and for certain reasons have considered looking outside of academia. Does anyone here have any experience with transitioning out of academia?
