Evaluating multiple eosinophil measurements when stepping up to ICS/LAMA/LABA triple therapy in patients with COPD: a post-hoc analysis of ETHOS
Conclusions: Baseline EOS, maximum EOS and median EOS were able to predict ICS responders. Maximum EOS may provide an additional method to identify patients who may benefit from ICS, although this is not necessarily of greater value than using the baseline EOS measure. Implications of treatable traits and treatment choices on exacerbation risk in moderate-severe asthma
Conclusions: Symptom control, BMI and sex contribute to ExR, irrespective of treatment. These scenarios quantify the effect of treatable traits and treatment choices in moderate-severe asthma.Funding: GlaxoSmithKline (Study 215310) (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Pharmacovigilance in Brazil: safety of budesonide-formoterol
Conclusion: Considering this analysis, we can conclude that the use of a wide-spread molecule, such as budesonide-formoterol combination in Brazil, was associated with a few occurrence of adverse events and, when reported, were mostly non-serious events. (Source: European Respiratory Journal)

Regulation and directed inhibition of ECP production by human neutrophils
ConclusionsOur results suggest the molecular pathways involved in ECP production and potential therapeutic targets. We also provide a new method to evaluate disease severity in asthmatic patients based on the quantification of in vitro ECP production by peripheral neutrophils. (Source: Frontiers in Immunology)

Narrative Review of the Role of Patient-Reported Outcomes and Inhaler Handling Errors in the Control of Asthma and COPD
AbstractPurpose of ReviewAsthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are chronic respiratory diseases that remain uncontrolled in many patients, despite the wide range of therapeutic options available. This review analyzes the available clinical evidence on 3 budesonide/formoterol DPI devices, Spiromax®, Turbuhaler®, and Easyhaler®, in terms of patient-reported outcomes (PROs), inhaler errors, and asthma and COPD control.Recent FindingsThe effectiveness of dry powder inhalers (DPI) depends largely on the device and the patient ’s inhaler technique. Equally important are the patient’s perception of the in...
