Multimorbidity and its associated risk factors among adults in northern Sudan: a community-based cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: The high prevalence of multimorbidity revealed in this study uncovers a major public health problem among Sudanese adults. Our results show that increasing age and female sex are associated with multimorbidity. Additional extensive studies are necessary to evaluate the magnitude of multimorbidity for improved future planning and establishing effective health systems.PMID:38281058 | PMC:PMC10822146 | DOI:10.1186/s41043-024-00513-7 (Source: Journal of Health, Population, and Nutrition)

Epidemiology of < i > Echinococcus granulosus sensu lato < /i > in the Greater Horn of Africa: A systematic review
ConclusionsWe confirm thatE.granulosus s.l. is prevalent throughout the GHA. Nevertheless, despite our efforts to screen grey literature, an accurate assessment of the epidemiology in GHA remains challenging, due to the lack of combined host, in-depth risk factor and behavioural studies, as well as the wide diversity in subpopulations studied and diagnostic tools used. Interdisciplinary and transboundary partnerships would be essential for the design of effective control strategies, tuned to the GHA setting. (Source: PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases)

Tuberculosis in Sudan: systematic review and meta analysis
BMC Pulm Med. 2024 Jan 23;24(1):51. doi: 10.1186/s12890-024-02865-6.ABSTRACTEvery year, 10 million people fall ill with tuberculosis (TB). Despite being a preventable and curable disease, 1.5 million people die from TB each year -making it the world's top infectious disease. TB is the leading cause of death of people with HIV and also a major contributor to antimicrobial resistance. Its presumed that TB was the cause of 1% of the total deaths among inpatients in Sudan in 2017. The current study is aimed to provide pooled prevalence of Mycobacterium tuberculosis among Sudanese as well as to determine any socio-cultural risk...

Vaccination coverage and adverse events following a reactive vaccination campaign against hepatitis E in Bentiu displaced persons camp, South Sudan
ConclusionsWe found a high coverage of at least one dose of the Hecolin vaccine following three rounds of vaccination, and no severe AEFI. The vaccine was well accepted and well tolerated in the Bentiu IDP camp community and should be considered for use in future outbreak response. (Source: PLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases)

Genome-wide SNP discovery and genotyping delineates potential QTLs underlying major yield-attributing traits in buckwheat
Plant Genome. 2024 Jan 18:e20427. doi: 10.1002/tpg2.20427. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBuckwheat (Fagopyrum spp.) is an important nutritional and nutraceutical-rich pseudo-cereal crop. Despite its obvious potential as a functional food, buckwheat has not been fully harnessed due to its low yield, self-incompatibility, increased seed cracking, limited seed set, lodging, and frost susceptibility. The inadequate availability of genomics resources in buckwheat is one of the major reasons for this. In the present study, genome-wide association mapping (GWAS) was conducted to identify loci associated with various morphological...
