Sleep timing vs sleep length or quality
Discussion section.... “During the most intense learning period of their lives, medical students and residents are rarely able to maintain regular sleep schedules due to their high workload and are therefore often sleep-deprived and/or suffer from poor sleep quality (Curcio et al., 2006; Gruber et al., 2010; Lund et al., 2010; Nojomi et al., 2009; Taras & Potts-Datema, 2005). Yet, sleep plays an important role in memory consolidation (Diekelmann & Born, 2010; Rattenborg... Sleep timing vs sleep length or quality (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Slim U diet Mumybear.?
Normal diets cause weight loss to be slow, causing excess skin flaps to dangle around your body. You must be careful when following basic diets, because if you have a large amount of weight, it will require you to be operated on to bring your body back to normal. Expect some results from the diet that is implemented as starvation is not required, and weight loss will occur during the day and even while you sleep! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

What to do in two weeks?
Hello people, I was supposed to have my step 1 exam today but I didn't get any sleep so I am postponing it for two weeks. Until now I have done: FAx3, Pathomax2, Uworldx2, UWSA 1 & 2, the three NBME practice blocks and NBME 16,17,18,19. It looks like I am going to score somewhere between 230 and 240. What would you suggest on doing these two weeks? I don't think I can take any more hardcore studying, I just want to do something so I can stay in touch. I was thinking about doing the old... how subspecialized are neuro jobs
I'm a medical student considering neurology. How realistic is it as a neurologist to practice only what you do your fellowship in and not see general neurology patients? I'm interested in movement disorders, behavioral neurology (dementia), or sleep medicine fellowships. I like the idea of being a specialist in one of these areas and only seeing those patients in my clinic. Is it common for neurologists to find jobs in their subspecialty only or are most neurologists still seeing general... how subspecialized are neuro jobs (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How Much Sleep Night Before DAT?
This is simply a fun thread for curiosity purposes, but the question here is: How many hours of sleep did you manage to get the night before the DAT, and do you think it affected you significantly? Plus, what advice do you have for future DAT takers? Personally, I managed to get 8+ hours of sleep with no melatonin or any sleep aids. I simply stretched, relaxed my muscles, and took a few deep breaths. Then, I listened to this while my eyes were closed and I was trying to fall asleep.... How Much Sleep Night Before DAT? Christmas 2018
This stupid depressing, lonely ass holiday. First off, the Hollywood folk usually give me a hand and keep the theaters open. Which they are. Thanks. I appreciate you. I DO. But this year there isn't anything good out. I already saw the new Star Wars. Apparently I'm the only person that liked it. Other than that, nothing. I don't feel like watching a damned Jumanji remake. The first one was all we really needed as a society. There's a Winston Churchill biopic I could go sleep... Residency Rant
Ok.. let's start a residency rant thread (yeah, for the 100th time). 1. We're underpaid 2. Attendings round way too late. 9 am? Seriously? 3. Why am I always so hungry? 4. I believe nurses wait til 4 am when you think you just might get some sleep to call you for silly requests just to piss you off 5. Patients need to shower 6. Can this damn pager stop beeping already? 7. Why are some residents assholes to each other? Rant over (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Inheriting patients on not the greatest meds..........
One of the local psychiatrists opted to end her private practice and referred about 10 med management patients to me. I didn't know her personally. She had a good reputation by everything I have heard. I read the other thread about sleep meds and I do try sleep hygiene first but will prescribe sleepers pretty often if that is a significant problem. Her patients that I got have been seeing her on average for 10 or more years. They are pretty much all on benzos to sleep (not something I... Inheriting patients on not the greatest meds.......... Civilian deferment? What to expect?
Hey all. USUHS MS4 here, Air Force. Our match came out yesterday and I was put into a civilian deferment spot. The good news is that I had prepared for this possibility and have interviews at some great civ programs. The bad news is that this turn of events is really depressing me. Haven’t been able to sleep last 2 days. I was one of those who truly loved the military. I loved USUHS and SAMMC and was so excited to stay active duty throughout residency. The thought of putting away my... Civilian deferment? What to expect? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

I'm worried that my medical needs may derail me from becoming a physician. What are my options?
Hey everyone. I am having a hard time with things lately. I got a psychiatric diagnosis in May that requires me to take medications twice a day and it relies on me getting a normal amount of sleep to maintain recovery and to be able to handle the day time. I am still really reliant on a fixed schedule, and I haven't noticed any improvement with the rigidity in the past seven months. With that being said, I don't think that I would be able to make it through a residency with these... I'm worried that my medical needs may derail me from becoming a physician. What are my options? Bad interview RANT
I can’t sleep because of how poorly my interview at my top pick went, so I’m here to rant. I find it extremely unfair that the interviewing process is largely dependent on who interviews you. While waiting for my first interview session, I spoke with a faculty member for 5 minutes about my interests in the school and at the end he said “wow, I wish you were one of the students I’ll be interviewing today, it seems you’re the perfect fit.” My excitement was immediately shot down when I was... My First Two Weeks as an OMFS Intern
My first week at JPS, I thought was going to be a whirlwind, and it didn’t disappoint. I didn’t know how it was going to work being on call every other night, having just a little bit of time to sleep. There was really no time for anything other than OMS. A lot of interesting times and big things I wasn’t prepared for from dental school such as sewing up people’s faces and in general being awake 36 hours. It was definitely fun. I knew from discussing with other residents during the process... My First Two Weeks as an OMFS Intern (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Can't wake up on time!
Help-- this is bad, bad, bad because I just started on clinical rotations (and an easy rotation at that) and have run into the problem of not being able to wake up on time. The first time I was post-call, but had still gotten 6 hours of sleep or so, and just didn't hear my several alarm clocks-- or turned them off without realizing it (though I have 2, and one is all the way across the room)-- and I was several hours late. The second time was this morning-- this time I had also set up my... Can't wake up on time! (Source: Student Doctor Network)
