Gap Year conundrum
Two roads diverged in yellow wood............. After about 350 applications to be a clinical research coordinator (NYC) I finally got 2 job offers at the same time. I am having a tough time deciding which one to choose, I would appreciate any input! Option 1: Clinical research coordinator 2 (Manhattan) - Light & health research on sleep, education, traffic, neurodegenerative diseases - Patient recruiting, collect patient specimen, visit homes, admin work like IRB - Allowed to help with data... I regret choosing the wrong med school.
Hi everyone, this is my first ever post here. I made my decision to commit to my med school a few days ago and I have been regretting it every day since. I chose to go to a cheaper med school that would theoretically reduce my total debt after my 4 years by about 150k. However, the school is new and not that well established with practically no one matching into the competitive specialties that I am considering (neuro, derm, surgery). I have been losing sleep over it and the initial... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Reps
Outside my office suite, showing my logo, name, etc says a blurp, no walk ins , and y'all need an appointment to enter. Repeatedly I and the sleep doc that subleases from me, get reps coming in, with out an appointment. I have been nice and politely said not interested and shooed them out. This takes time. Its annoying. And its disrespectful when there is a clear sign on the door. Today, I got little grumpy and asked 'did you not see the sign?' And more gruffly said please get out... Should I retake a 509 if I had a 512 FL average?
My FL average was 512, and It has a strong upward trend with a high point of 516. I was honestly expecting to score somewhere between 514 and 518 on the real deal (About 90th percentile). Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sleep much the night before my exam, and I was very nervous throughout. Due to this, my score dropped to 509 (75th percentile) (128/125/128/128). My CARS score is usually a 127-128 and my P/S is around 129-130. I think I can do better on the test, and potentially get a... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Switching patient from xanax to trazodone?
I have a patient who has been on xanax for years, been on 0.5 mg at bedtime for the past year. She states that it helps her with sleep, but she wants off the medication due to cognitive concerns and concerns for addiction. I told her to cut it to 0.25 mg at bedtime, with a plan to slowly switch to trazodone. Anyone have experience with this or advice? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do you suffer from depression associated with clinical work?
I am using this word very non-clinically here... but I do wonder if there is a DSM term (or should be one) for like Shift Affective Disorder. I know there is something like that for sleep disorder, but I wonder if there is something related to mood. I feel down and dark during my shifts and I don't think it's normal. I wonder if people who have other jobs feel this way as well. I am not sure. Anyone else feel the same way? Or is this just the normal feeling of someone who doesn't want to... Urgent Situation
Hello everyone! I hope you are all well and are staying safe! I’m in quite an issue and I am losing so much sleep from it. I got a C+ in a class last semester and I was torn from it. I ended registering for the class again but that was a big mistake. I took Organic chemistry 2 but having taken Organic Chemistry 1 online, this has not been a pleasant class at the moment. I fell behind in my class that I’m retaking and really want to drop it and retake it next semester when my schedule is... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Class of 2021 NAPLEX Scores and Predictions
Well boys and girls, get ready because the 2021 NAPLEX scores will be coming soon this month (I hope) and that means that it’s time to test your Nostradamus skills. I will be honest that I haven’t had as much time to devote to this endeavor just due to giving vaccines until I see them in my sleep and life getting in the way but I had people tell me they enjoyed this thread last year along when I tell them in-person to prospective students. Keep in mind, these are just predictions and my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Dual Applying
Hi everyone, I'm a DO student going for ortho. I'm committed to ortho, but I'm not someone who can sleep at night without having a back-up plan. I'm confident that I would enjoy a career in neurology, so my tentative back up plan is to dual apply neurology and ortho. Any thoughts or experience with this? Also, how would the match process work for this? Say I ranked 6 ortho programs 1-6 on my rank list, then put another 6 neuro programs 7-12 - would I potentially ended up not matching... Longitudinal assessment
I just signed up for the longitudinal assessment option for MOC for my IM boards, instead of the 10 year exam. What would be the best resource for this assessment? Should I sign up for Up to Date, or the new version of MKSAP?? These days I practice mostly psychiatry and sleep medicine, rather than general IM. thank you (Source: Student Doctor Network)

QoL Neurology vs. Psychiatry
Hello, II wanted to ask about people who have had experience in Neuro vs. Psych particularly about the quality of life aspect as a resident and future attending. I like both specialties and find both of them interesting. But I also like things better when I have enough sleep and can see my friends/family. How do these specialties compare with say, IM? I don't want to become bitter and demoralized (although that may happen regardless). But I am trying to weight the pros and cons of two... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Specialty choice to avoid working at night?
I don't mind working long hours during the day, but I really suffer when my sleep schedule gets disrupted. Are there any specialties (or options within specialties) where I can avoid working at night? (defined as 10pm-6am) This is different from the "lifestyle specialties" question, for which I know the ROAD is the answer, since I'm willing to work hard (e.g. 80 hrs/wk) during the day.
