Antipsychotic prescribing and drug-related readmissions in multimorbid older inpatients: a post-hoc analysis of the OPERAM population
ConclusionIn this European multimorbid  polymedicated older inpatients, antipsychotics were infrequently prescribed, most often at low dosage. Besides neuro-psychiatric symptoms, risk factors for inhospital antipsychotic prescribing were lower functional status and polymedication. (Source: International Journal of Clinical Pharmacy)

Case report: Uncovering hidden glucose patterns in medicated versus unmedicated bipolar disorder and comorbid type 1 diabetes mellitus
ConclusionThe case report highlights the importance of the ongoing psychopharmacotherapy of bipolar disorder in comorbid type 1 diabetes mellitus to reduce mood-induced reactivity, emotional urgency, and non-emotional impulsivity that may contribute to dysglycemia. If not effectively treated, the “bipolar diabetes” is likely to progress to multiple psychiatric and somatic complications. The bidirectional links between the phases of bipolar disorder and the corresponding continuous glucose patterns can help advance clinical decision-making and yield innovative1 research that can translate into efficacious clinical pract...

The Relevance of Integrating CYP2C19 Phenoconversion Effects into Clinical Pharmacogenetics
Discussion PC of CYP2C19 changes phenotypes but does not improve correlations with serum concentrations. However, only a limited number of patients received perturbators of CYP2C19. Studies with large numbers of patients are still lacking, and thus, it cannot be decided if there are minor differences and which method of correction to use. For the time being, PC is relevant in individual patients treated with CYP2C19-affecting drugs, for example, esomeprazole. To ensure adequate serum concentrations in these patients, this study suggests the use of therap...

Parkinson's disease psychosis management: an evidence based, experience informed, pragmatic approach
This article focuses both on the phenomenology of psychotic symptoms and their management.EXPERT OPINION: Understanding the nature and implications of the types of psychotic symptoms in PD is the key to proper treatment. Evidence and experience-based data on the effect of anti-psychotic medications will be reviewed and how the various clinical settings should determine the treatment approach. The evidence base consists of all reported blinded trials recorded in PubMed and the experience-based studies are those chosen by the author from PubMed as illustrative. Specific recommendations for the treatment of psychosis will be ...

Exploring the impact of pharmacogenetics on personalized medicine: A systematic review
CONCLUSION: The studies analyzed in this review suggest a strong correlation between genetic variability and individual drug responses, supporting the use of pharmacogenetics for treatment optimization. However, for certain drugs like metformin or quetiapine, the influence of genotype on their response remains unclear. More studies with larger sample sizes, greater ethnic diversity, and consideration of non-genetic factors are needed. The lack of standardization in analysis methods and accessibility to genetic testing are significant challenges in this field. As a conclusion, pharmacogenetics shows immense potential in per...
