Risk factors and a prediction model for unruptured intracranial aneurysms in patients with ischemic stroke using carotid intima-media thickness and systemic atherosclerosis
CONCLUSION: The findings revealed that the risk factors for UIA in patients with IS included aspirin use, elevated CRP level, and smaller carotid IMT, and the predictive value of the prediction model was relatively better.PMID:37706007 | PMC:PMC10495834 | DOI:10.3389/fneur.2023.1227673

AEE alleviates ox-LDL-induced lipid accumulation and inflammation in macrophages
Biomed Pharmacother. 2023 Sep 12;167:115486. doi: 10.1016/j.biopha.2023.115486. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtherosclerosis is a chronic immune inflammatory disease. Aspirin eugenol ester (AEE) is a novel safe and non-toxic compound with many pharmacological effects such as anti-inflammatory, anti-hyperlipidemic and anti-thrombotic action. In order to investigate the effect of AEE on the inhibition of aortic lipid plaque formation and macrophage-derived foam cell formation induced by oxidized low density lipoprotein (ox-LDL), in vivo atherosclerosis model by feeding ApoE-/- mice with a high-fat diet and foam cells format...

Plasma protein signatures for high on-treatment platelet reactivity to aspirin and clopidogrel in peripheral artery disease
CONCLUSIONS: A plasma protein signature, including eight targets involved in proatherogenic dysfunction of blood cell-vasculature interaction, coagulation and cell death, is associated with HTPR (aspirin and/or clopidogrel) in PAD. This may serve as important systems-based determinants of poor platelet responsiveness to aspirin and/or clopidogrel in PAD and other cardiovascular diseases and may contribute to identify novel treatment strategies.PMID:37708596 | DOI:10.1016/j.thromres.2023.08.017

Early Computed Tomography Coronary Angiography and Preventative Treatment in Patients with Suspected Acute Coronary Syndrome A secondary analysis of the RAPID-CTCA trial
CONCLUSIONS: Prescription patterns of preventative treatment varied during index hospitalisation in patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome. Early CTCA facilitated targeted individualisation of these therapies based on the extent of coronary artery disease.PMID:37709109 | DOI:10.1016/j.ahj.2023.09.003

Long-term aspirin administration suppresses inflammation in diabetic cystopathy
Aging (Albany NY). 2023 Sep 12;15. doi: 10.18632/aging.205021. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDiabetic cystopathy (DCP) is one of the most common and troublesome urologic complications of diabetes mellitus, characterized by chronic low-grade inflammatory response. However, the correlation between inflammation and disease progression remains ambiguous and effective drugs interventions remain deficient. Herein, during 12-week study, 48 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to four groups: negative control (NC), NC treated with aspirin (NC+Aspirin), DCP, and DCP treated with aspirin (DCP+Aspirin). Type 1 diabetes mel...

Inhibition of carbonic anhydrase using aspirin is a novel method to block schistosomiasis infection of the parasitic trematode, Schistosoma mansoni, in the intermediate snail host, Biomphalaria glabrata
In this study, we investigated the role of CA inhibition in B. glabrata snails exposed to S. mansoni miracidia. We analyzed the expression of the B. glabrata CA encoding transcript in juvenile susceptible and resistant snails, with and without exposure to S. mansoni. Our results showed that the expression of the CA mRNA encoding transcript was upregulated during early and prolonged infection in susceptible snails (BBO2), but not in the resistant BS-90 stock. Notably, sodium salicylate, a form of aspirin, inhibited the expression of CA, post-exposure, to the parasite. Increasing research between parasites and cancer has sho...
