Aspirin delays the onset of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy among nulliparous pregnant women: A secondary analysis of the ASPIRIN trial
CONCLUSIONS: In this secondary analysis of a study of low-risk nulliparous singleton pregnancies, early administration of LDA resulted in lower rates of preterm HDP and delivery before 34 and 37 weeks but not in the overall rate of HDP. These results suggest that LDA works in part by delaying HDP.PMID:37470099 | DOI:10.1111/1471-0528.17607

Clinical characteristics and dynamic evaluation of hematoma morphology in patients with aspirin-related intracerebral hemorrhage
CONCLUSIONS: The morphology of ARICH hematoma was mainly irregular (67%). In ARICH patients, if the hematoma volume rose within 1-3 days of initiation, the hematoma volume increased even more. Compared with non-ATT-ICH, ARICH had a faster rate of hematoma absorption at 3-7 d.PMID:37458662 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202307_32967

Ischemic Stroke Management: Posthospitalization and Transition of Care
Am Fam Physician. 2023 Jul;108(1):70-77.ABSTRACTIschemic stroke is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack exist on a continuum of the same disease process. Ischemic stroke is common, and more than 85% of stroke risk is attributed to modifiable risk factors. The initial management of acute stroke is usually performed in the emergency department and hospital settings. Family physicians have a key role in follow-up, ensuring that a complete diagnostic evaluation has been performed, addressing modifiable risk factors, facilitating rehabilitation, and managing chronic s...

Reassessing Preterm Birth Prevention After the Withdrawal of 17- α Hydroxyprogesterone Caproate
Obstet Gynecol. 2023 Jul 13. doi: 10.1097/AOG.0000000000005290. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently withdrawn approval for 17-α hydroxyprogesterone caproate for prevention of recurrent preterm birth, and recent studies have called into question benefits of the pessary in the setting of a short cervix. Obstetric health care professionals are once again left with limited remaining options for preterm birth prevention. This narrative review summarizes the best current evidence on the use of vaginal progesterone, low-dose aspirin, and cerclage for the prevention of preterm birth; a...
