Salivary vitamin D levels among OSCC and normal Indian patients
Bioinformation. 2022 Oct 31;18(10):884-887. doi: 10.6026/97320630018884. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTOral Squamous Cell Carcinoma comprises nearly 90% of all Oral cancers. Recent studies on Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma are done with a focus on identification of factors that affect the outcome of treatment, one of which is vitamin D levels. The aim of this study was to evaluate vitamin D3 levels in patients with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Normal Population with saliva as a biomarker. The study sample comprised of 40 subjects, of whom 20 were patients diagnosed with OSCC and 20 healthy subjects. The salivary samples obtai...

Management of clinically node-negative early-stage oral cancer: network meta-analysis of randomized clinical trials
The best treatments for the clinically node-negative (cN0) neck in early-stage oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) patients are a subject of ongoing debate and there is no consensus. A network meta-analysis (NMA) of randomized clinical trials (RCTs) was conducted to determine the most effective treatment and to rank treatments based on their effectiveness. A systematic search was performed in accordance with the PRISMA guidelines to retrieve RCTs that compared therapeutic neck dissection (TND), sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), and elective neck dissection (END).

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 4386: Toll-like Receptor Agonists Are Unlikely to Provide Benefits in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: TLR agonists do not appear to provide additional clinical benefits or increase adverse events in the treatment of HNSCC. Given these results across multiple clinical trials and drug regimens, it is unlikely that additional trials of TLR agonists will demonstrate clinical benefits in HNSCC.

Genome-wide methylation profiling identified methylated KCNA3 and OTOP2 as promising diagnostic markers for esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: The dual-target panel based on cfDNA showed excellent performance for detecting ESCC and might be an alternative strategy for screening ESCC.PMID:37650127 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002832

Genetic analysis of low-grade adenosquamous carcinoma of the breast progressing to high-grade metaplastic carcinoma
CONCLUSION: Not only LGASC but also its associated high-grade MBC may be genetically different from de novo high-grade MBC. Progression from LGASC to high-grade MBC may involve the concentration of driver mutations caused by clonal selection and inactivation of tumor-suppressor genes.PMID:37650999 | DOI:10.1007/s10549-023-07078-9

Integrative multiomics and weighted network approach reveals the prognostic role of RPS7 in lung squamous cell carcinoma pathogenesis
J Appl Genet. 2023 Sep 1. doi: 10.1007/s13353-023-00782-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTLung cancer is one of the most commonly occurring malignant cancers with the highest rate of mortality globally. Difference between lung squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) and lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and their treatment strategies according to genetic markers may be helpful in reducing the cancer progression and increasing the overall survival (OS) in patients. LUSC is known for comparatively less typical onco-drivers, target therapy resistance, marked genomic complexity, and a reasonably higher mutation rate. The mRNA-seq data and clin...

Identification of an endoplasmic reticulum stress-related prognostic risk model with excellent prognostic and clinical value in oral squamous cell carcinoma
CONCLUSION: A prognostic model with high clinical application value was constructed. Immune cells, cellular stemness, and TMB may be involved in the progression of OSCC.PMID:37647077 | DOI:10.18632/aging.204983

Oral verrucous Carcinoma on mandibular right alveolar region
BMJ Case Rep. 2023 Aug 30;16(8):e256239. doi: 10.1136/bcr-2023-256239.ABSTRACTVerrucous carcinoma, a low-grade variant of squamous cell carcinoma, defined as a diagnostically squamous cell neoplasia involving lip, oropharyngeal, and laryngeal mucosa and named as 'Ackerman's tumour' by Ackerman in 1948. It usually occurs in the lower lip region and this is one such case in which a painful proliferative growth was evident over the right alveolar region for the period of 8 months. Radiological investigations, biopsies were performed followed by surgical excision of the lesion.PMID:37648278 | DOI:10.1136/bcr-2023-256239

Tonsillectomy as Prevention of Tonsil and Base of Tongue Cancer: Systematic Review and Meta-analysis on the Immuno-Oncological Effect of One Among the Most Common Surgeries in the World
Anticancer Res. 2023 Sep;43(9):3881-3889. doi: 10.21873/anticanres.16575.ABSTRACTOtorhinolaryngology tradition is that tonsillectomy (TE) is conducted among children and adolescents for obstructive sleep apnea secondary to adenotonsillar hypertrophy and in adults for chronic disease of the tonsils and adenoids (recurrent tonsillitis). Nevertheless, over the last 50 years, we have observed a decline in TE worldwide. As a result, there is an emerging concern of a correlated possible increased risk of tonsil cancer (TC) and other subtypes of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. Since the available data on such topics are li...
