Main barriers to effective implementation of stroke care pathways in France: a qualitative study
Conclusion: Lack of resources was considered to be the chief obstacle to effective SCP implementation. However, the main weakness of existing SCPs was poor communication and cooperation among health professionals and among facilities. We intend to use this knowledge to construct a robust set of quality indicators for use in SCP quality improvement initiatives, in comparisons between SCPs, and in the assessment of the effective implementation of clinical practice guidelines.

Neighborhood geographic disparities in heart attack and stroke mortality: Comparison of global and local modeling approaches
This study investigated neighborhood geographic disparities in myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke mortality risks in middle Tennessee and identified determinants of observed disparities. Descriptive and spatial analyses were performed on MI and stroke mortality data covering the time period 1999–2007. Besag, York and Molliè (BYM) model was used to investigate spatial patterns. Global (BYM) and local models [Poisson Geographically Weighted Generalized Linear Models (GWGLM)] were used to investigate determinants of the identified spatial patterns. Significant (p <0.05) differences in mortality risks by sex, race...

Validation of Diagnoses of Transient Ischemic Attack in the Swedish Stroke Register (Riksstroke) TIA-Module
Conclusions: There was interobserver agreement on diagnosis of TIA in the majority of patients included in RS-TIA. Diagnostic accuracy may be further improved by more systematic documentation of symptoms and signs.Neuroepidemiology 2015;45:40-43

Cost–benefit analysis of the polypill in the primary prevention of myocardial infarction and stroke
Abstract The primary prevention of cardiovascular disease is a public health priority. To assess the costs and benefits of a Polypill Prevention Programme using a daily 4-component polypill from age 50 in the UK, we determined the life years gained without a first myocardial infarction (MI) or stroke, together with the total service cost (or saving) and the net cost (or saving) per year of life gained without a first MI or stroke. This was estimated on the basis of a 50 % uptake and a previously published 83 % treatment adherence. The total years of life gained without a first MI or stroke in a mature programme ...

Systematic review of risk prediction models for falls after stroke
Conclusions A number of falls-risk prediction models have been developed for use in the acute and subacute stages of stroke. Future research should focus on validating and improving existing models, with reference to the Transparent Reporting of a multivariable prediction model for Individual Prognosis Or Diagnosis (TRIPOD) guidelines to ensure quality reporting and expedite clinical implementation.

Association between periodontitis and ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
In conclusion, the present meta-analysis demonstrated an association between periodontitis and ischemic stroke. However, well-designed prospective studies should be carried out to provide robust evidence of the link between both diseases. In regards to ischemic stroke subtypes, further case-control studies should be carried out to investigate whether there is any association between the different subtypes of cerebral infarcts and periodontitis.

Sociodemographic factors and functional capacity of elderly affected by stroke
Conclusion: It was seen that demographic factors might interfere with the functional capacity of elderly affected by stroke. Hence, it is believed that this investigation might have contributed to the reflection on this issue, thus supporting the promotion of these people ’ s access to health assistance programs.

Comparisons of Risk Factors for Intracerebral Hemorrhage versus Ischemic Stroke in Chinese Patients
Background: Chinese populations have a higher stroke incidence, a higher proportion of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), and a lower proportion of ischemic stroke (IS) as compared with white populations. The reasons are not fully understood. Methods: To evaluate the differences of major risk factors between ICH and IS in Chinese stroke patients, we analysed acute ICH and IS patients consecutively recruited in National Taiwan University Hospital Stroke Registry from 2006 to 2011. We used multiple logistic regression models to examine the associations of risk factors with ICH vs. IS. Also, we conducted subgroup analyses when a ...

Clinico-epidemiological profile of stroke patients admitted in a tertiary care Hospital of Assam
Conclusion haemorrhagic CVA constitutes a larger percentage of stroke subtypes on this side of the globe effecting poor to lower middle class. Proper strategy to prevent and treat haemorrhagic CVA in this part of the world is the need of the hour.

Treatment and Outcomes of Working Aged Adults with Stroke: Results from a National Prospective Registry
Conclusions: Younger stroke patients exhibited distinct differences from their older counterparts with respect to demographic and clinical characteristics, prescription of antihypertensive medications and residual health status.Neuroepidemiology 2017;49:113 –120

Association between adult height, myocardial infarction, heart failure, stroke and death: a Korean nationwide population-based study
ConclusionsShorter height in adulthood was strongly related to an increased risk of MI, HF, stroke and all-cause death. A suitable environment and appropriate nutrition early in life could influence adult height and eventually reduce the risk of CV events and mortality.

Presentation, Evaluation, Management, and Outcomes of Acute Stroke in Low- and Middle-Income Countries: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Our review revealed the low use of evidence-based practices for acute stroke care in LMIC. The true use in hospitals that do not conduct this research is probably even lower. Strategies to evaluate and improve health system performance for acute stroke care, including implantation of stroke units and making thrombolysis more available and affordable are needed in LMIC. Comparative effectiveness and safety of direct acting oral anticoagulants in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation for stroke prevention: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: Apixaban appeared to have a favorable effectiveness-safety profile compared with the other DOACs in AF for stroke prevention, based on evidence from both direct and indirect comparisons. However, additional high-quality evidence is needed to support firm recommendations on clinical decision-making.
