Comparative effectiveness and safety of direct acting oral anticoagulants in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation for stroke prevention: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Conclusions: Apixaban appeared to have a favorable effectiveness-safety profile compared with the other DOACs in AF for stroke prevention, based on evidence from both direct and indirect comparisons. However, additional high-quality evidence is needed to support firm recommendations on clinical decision-making.

Treatment with Multiple Therapeutic Classes of Medication is Associated with Survival after Stroke
Conclusion: Treatment with all three classes of guideline-recommended medications within 90 days post-discharge was associated with better survival. Ongoing efforts are required to ensure optimal pharmacological intervention for secondary prevention of stroke.

A Multicentre Study Comparing Cerebrovascular Disease Profiles in Pacific Islander and Caucasian Populations Presenting with Stroke and Transient Ischaemic Attack
Conclusion: Distinct cerebrovascular disease profiles are identifiable in PI-born patients who present with TIA or stroke symptoms in Australia. These may be used in the future to direct targeted approaches to stroke prevention and care in culturally and linguistically diverse populations.Neuroepidemiology

Effects of exergaming on functional outcomes in people with chronic stroke: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Exergaming has favourable effects on improving balance, lower limb functional mobility and functional independence among individuals with chronic stroke, making it a suitable adjunct to conventional physiotherapy.IMPACT: People with chronic stroke have difficulty achieving the required rehab intensity. Exergaming can help individuals with chronic stroke to undertake further rehabilitation exercises at home. It can be a suitable adjunct to conventional physiotherapy.PMID:34877698 | DOI:10.1111/jan.15125

Effectiveness of caregiver-mediated exercise interventions on activities of daily living, anxiety and depression post-stroke rehabilitation: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: Caregiver-mediated exercise interventions appear to have beneficial impacts on basic ADL for stroke survivors, suggesting caregiver-mediated exercise interventions as a potentially feasible way to improve functional independence.IMPACT: Caregiver-mediated intervention with exercises as a major component could be a promising approach to augment stroke rehabilitation. Future research should include high-quality studies with focus on specific intervention components or to explore caregiver outcomes.PMID:35451521 | DOI:10.1111/jan.15239

Sex differences in outcome after thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke. A propensity score-matched study
CONCLUSIONS: Subject to the limitations of a non-randomized comparison, women with stroke due to LVO treated with mechanical thrombectomy had a better chance to achieve complete recanalization, and 3-month functional independence than men. The results could be driven by women who underwent combined treatment.PMID:35647312 | PMC:PMC9134778 | DOI:10.1177/23969873221091648

Mediators of the Effect of obesity on Stroke and Heart Disease Risk: Decomposing Direct and Indirect Effects
CONCLUSIONS: High BMI in young adults increases the risk of metabolic mediators in their middle age, and metabolic mediators explain the adverse effects of high BMI on stroke risk than IHD risk.PMID:35781427 | DOI:10.2188/jea.JE20210476
