Glaucoma in rural China (the Rural Epidemiology for Glaucoma in China (REG-China)): a national cross-sectional study
CONCLUSIONS: Rural populations have a high prevalence of glaucoma, which should be included in chronic disease management programmes in China for long-term care.PMID:35840290 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2021-320754

Nationwide trends in emergency department utilisation for acute retinal ischaemia in the USA, 2011-2018
CONCLUSION: Of the estimated 48 000 patients with TMVL or RAO annually in the USA, few are evaluated in the ED, and admission rates are less than for transient ischaemic attack or ischaemic stroke and are decreasing over time.PMID:35760457 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321418

SUBRETINAL DRUSENOID DEPOSITS AND SOFT DRUSEN: Are They Markers for Distinct Retinal Diseases?
Conclusion: Subjects with subretinal drusenoid deposits and non-SDD subjects have distinct systemic associations and serum and genetic risks. Subretinal drusenoid deposits are associated with CVD and stroke, ARMS2 risk, and lower high-density lipoprotein; non-SDDs are associated with higher high-density lipoprotein, CFH risk, and two lipid risk genes. These and other distinct associations suggest that these lesions are markers for distinct diseases.

Roles and Mechanisms of Regulated Necrosis in Corneal Diseases: Progress and Perspectives
J Ophthalmol. 2022 May 23;2022:2695212. doi: 10.1155/2022/2695212. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTRegulated necrosis is defined as cell death characterized by loss of the cell membrane integrity and release of the cytoplasmic content. It contributes to the development and progression of some diseases, including ischemic stroke injury, liver diseases, hypertension, and cancer. Various forms of regulated necrosis, particularly pyroptosis, necroptosis, and ferroptosis, have been implicated in the pathogenesis of corneal disease. Regulated necrosis of corneal cells enhances inflammatory reactions in the adjacent corneal tissues, lea...

New-onset Oscillopsia in a Patient With a History of Pontine Stroke
Abstract: A 69-year-old man with a history of pontine hemorrhage 2 years ago noticed binocular vertical diplopia after the stroke. On examination, there was a small-angle incomitant left hyperdeviation that did not fit the 3-step test for fourth nerve palsy and incyclotorsion of the higher eye. On motility testing, there was an obvious pendular nystagmus. Resting tremor of the right hand was noticed on neurological examination. Examination of the oropharynx revealed rhythmic oscillations of the soft palate synchronous with the eye oscillations and hand tremor. These findings established a diagnosis of oculopalatal myoc...

Peg-leg arterioles: an adaptation to chronic retinal hypoperfusion
Conclusion: Chronic severe retinal hypoperfusion due to profound carotid occlusive disease can lead to adaptive remodeling of the retinal vasculature in a pattern that closely resembles the iconic image of a pirate's peg leg.

Topical Nerve Growth Factor for the Treatment of Neurotrophic Keratopathy Caused by Wallenberg Syndrome
Conclusions: Clinicians should be aware that visual loss can also occur from NK of central origin. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case report of NK caused by WS successfully treated with rNGF reported in the literature.
