Prevalence and Risk Factors of Glaucoma Among Chinese People From the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study
Conclusions: Geographic variation in the prevalence of self-reported glaucoma and its strong association with preexisting systemic chronic diseases were observed, suggesting that in addition to ophthalmological examinations, regular physical examinations are necessary for glaucoma patients, especially in areas of high incidence. Appropriate strategies to improve preventive measures for glaucoma are recommended for the Chinese population.

Similarities and differences in systemic risk factors for retinal artery occlusion and retinal vein occlusion: A nationwide case –control study
ConclusionDifferences in the level of associations with the included risk factors suggests differences in the pathophysiologies of the two diseases. The main pathophysiology associated with RAO was atherosclerosis, whereas the main pathophysiology associated with RVO was changes in the pressure gradients of the eyes.

Role of the ABO blood groups as a risk factor for retinal vein occlusion
In this study we investigated (i) an association between blood group and the presence of RVO and (ii) whether this association correlated to other RVO risk factors. Methods We included 485 RVO patients and 295 control subjects who were recruited in this case-control study. We determined ABO genotypes rs8176719 as a marker for the O allele and rs8176746 for the B allele by polymerase chain reaction. Results We did not find an association between ABO blood gr oup and the presence of RVO. In detail, the proportion of ABO blood groups was similar among RVO patients and control subjects (p=0.527). In a logistic regression, ...

The Effects of Visual Field Loss from Stroke on Performance in a Driving Simulator
CONCLUSIONS In this large cohort, driver safety could not be predicted from the type of homonymous visual field loss. Even individuals with severe visual field loss might be safe drivers. Therefore, it seems reasonable to provide an opportunity for individualized assessments of practical fitness to drive in circumstances of licensing issues. This study demonstrates the potential of using a standardized driving simulator test for such assessments of fitness to drive.

Accuracy of Visual Fields in Localizing MRI Lesions in Posterior Cerebral Artery Infarction
Conclusion: In this study of PCA ischemic stroke, VFDs limited to 1 hemifield were accurate in locating the side and quadrant of the MRI visual cortex lesions. However, the quadrantic VFDs sometimes failed to predict that the lesions involved both the superior and inferior quadrants on the same side, largely because those lesions had subtle imaging features that defied accurate radiologic assessment or were out of the reach of the visual field test protocol.

Risks of posterior segment ocular ischaemic events in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a population-based cohort study in Taiwan
CONCLUSIONS: SLE increases the risk of developing OIE. Systemic comorbidities and higher dosage of steroid in patients with SLE are associated with severe ocular ischaemic complications.PMID:35922126 | DOI:10.1136/bjo-2022-321653
