20  kDa isoform of connexin-43 augments spatial reorganization of the brain endothelial junctional complex and lesion leakage in cerebral cavernous malformation type-3
This study highlights generation of potential defects at the CCM3-affected brain endothelial barrier which may underlie prolonged vascular leakiness.PMID:37652184 | DOI:10.1016/j.nbd.2023.106277

Effect of using an 8-figure shoulder brace on arm swing angle and gait parameters in chronic stroke patients: a pilot randomized controlled study
CONCLUSIONS: This study demonstrated that 8-FSBTT training, combined with standard physiotherapy, improved Arm swing angle, gait speed, cadence, and both side stride lengths in the chronic stroke patients.PMID:37651200 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2023.2253626

A right convergence area of the prefrontal lobe is involved in the improvement of semantic fluency in patients with post-stroke aphasia
CONCLUSION: The improvement of semantic fluency in subacute PSA patients may require the participation of the right convergence area of the prefrontal lobe.PMID:37651207 | DOI:10.1080/10749357.2023.2253632

Healthcare expenditure trends among adult stroke patients in the United States, 2011-2020
In the US, between 2018 and 2019, approximately $57 billion were expended on stroke and related conditions. The aim of this study was to understand trends in direct healthcare expenditures among stroke patients using novel cost estimation methods and a nationally representative database.

Transradial versus transfemoral access for mechanical thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke: A retrospective cohort study
The objective of this study was  to compare procedural and clinical outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS) treated via transradial access (TRA) mechanical thrombectomy (MT) versus conventional transfemoral access (TFA).

Prediction models for post-thrombectomy brain edema in patients with acute ischemic stroke: a systematic review and meta-analysis
ConclusionDespite the promising discriminative ability shown by studies on prediction models for post-thrombectomy brain edema in AIS patients, concerns related to a high risk of bias and limited external validation remain. Future research should prioritize the external validation and optimization of these models. There is an urgent need for large-scale, multicenter studies to develop robust, user-friendly models for real-world clinical application.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk, unique Identifier: CRD42022382790.

Inflammasome Activation Mediates Apoptotic and Pyroptotic Death in Astrocytes Under Ischemic Conditions
In this study, we investigated the expression and activati on of inflammasome components in protoplasmic and fibrous astrocytes under ischemic conditions. We found that both protoplasmic and fibrous astrocytes expressed a differential increase in inflammasome protein components, and that their activation promoted maturation of IL-1β and IL-18, and secretio n of IL-1β, as well as initiating apoptotic and pyroptotic cell death. Pharmacological inhibition of caspase-1 decreased expression of cleaved caspase-1 and production of mature IL-1β, and protected against inflammasome-mediated apoptotic and pyroptotic cell death. Ov...

Comparison of three measures for insomnia in ischemic stroke patients: Pittsburgh sleep quality index, insomnia severity index, and Athens insomnia scale
ConclusionEach of the three questionnaires has advantages and disadvantages when assessing insomnia. In the evaluation of insomnia in IS patients, the best questionnaire selection should be made according to the purpose of clinical evaluation and considering the sensitivity and specificity.
