Treatment Delays and Chance of Reperfusion Therapy in Patients with Acute Stroke: A Danish Nationwide Study
Conclusions: Patient delay remains the most important barrier for use of reperfusion therapy among acute ischemic stroke patients calling 1-1-2, whereas system delay seems independent of patient delay.Cerebrovasc Dis

Risk of Major Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Events in Users of Lisdexamfetamine and Other Medications for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder in Denmark and Sweden: A Population-Based Cohort Study
ConclusionOur findings suggest little to no increased risk of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events in patients treated with LDX compared with patients previously treated with other ADHD medications.

Can Helicopters Solve the Transport Dilemma for Patients With Symptoms of Large-Vessel Occlusion Stroke in Intermediate Density Areas? A Simulation Model Based on Real Life Data
ConclusionsOur model calculations suggest that using helicopters to transport patients with stroke directly to the CSC in intermediate density areas markedly reduce onset-to-groin time without affecting time to thrombolysis. In this setting, helicopter capacity is not challenged by increasing the capture zone.

Sex differences in independence in activities of daily living early in stroke rehabilitation
ConclusionIn a homogeneous sample of stroke survivors undergoing specialized 24-h stroke rehabilitation for 11 –14 days, females were more dependent in ADL than males.

Does General Anesthesia Compared With Conscious Sedation Result in Better Outcomes in Acute Stroke Patients Undergoing Endovascular Therapy?
Conclusions: GA does not result in worse tissue outcomes or worse clinical outcomes when compared with CS in acute stroke patients with large vessel occlusion undergoing mechanical thrombectomy.

Knowledge and application of upper limb prediction models and attitude toward prognosis among physiotherapists and occupational therapists in the clinical stroke setting.
CONCLUSIONS: Results from this study indicate that prediction models for UL function after stroke are not yet a part of daily practice in Danish stroke rehabilitation. At the same time, knowledge of prognosis seems to be relevant for most therapists in their clinical work. PMID: 32583731 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Elevated miR-9 in Cerebrospinal Fluid Is Associated with Poor Functional Outcome After Subarachnoid Hemorrhage
This study evaluated microRNA (miRNA) changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and their association with the occurrence of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) and poor functional outcome after SAH. Forty-three selected miRNAs were measured in daily CSF samples from a discovery cohort of SAH patients admitted to Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen, Denmark, and compared with neurologically healthy patients. Findings were validated in CSF from a replication cohort of SAH patients admitted to Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts. The CSF levels of miRNA over time were compared with the occurrence of DCI, and functional outco...

Performance Stability and Interrater Reliability of Culturally Adapted 10-Meter Walking Test for Danes with Neurological Disorders
Background: The 10-meter Walking Test (10MWT) is often used to assess people with, e.g., stroke, but often using different procedures. The aims of this study were to translate the 10MWT into Danish, to determine the number of trials needed to achieve performance stability, and to examine the interrater reliability and agreement of the 10MWT in people with neurological disorders. Methods: Translation followed international recommendations, and evaluated in a consecutive sample of 50 people with a neurological disorder.

Acupuncture for Post-stroke Shoulder-Hand Syndrome: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Conclusions: Acupuncture therapy seems effective for motor function, pain relief and activities of daily living in stroke patients with mild SHS, when it is used in combination with rehabilitation. The low certainty of evidence downgrades our confidence in making recommendations to clinical practice. Introduction Shoulder-hand syndrome (SHS) is a common condition among people who have had a stroke, with its reported prevalence ranging from 12% to 49% (1, 2). The main symptoms of SHS include pain, hyperalgesia, joint swelling and limitations in range of motion (ROM) (3). Post-stroke SHS is also named type I complex ...

Corticospinal Tract Integrity and Long-Term Hand Function Prognosis in Patients With Stroke
Conclusions: The present study showed that CST integrity (at 6 months after onset) in patients with chronic stroke was related to functional hand status. In addition, the mid-pons FA value was more predictive of functional restoration of the hand than the FN or FA value at the pontomedullary junction. These results may be useful in predicting the functional restoration of the hand and understanding the functional prognosis of stroke. Introduction Restoration of hand function is one of the most important goals for patients with stroke (1). Thus, techniques that aid in predicting restoration of hand function are also i...

Social Inequality by Income in Short- and Long-Term Cause-Specific Mortality after Stroke
Goals: It is unclear whether social inequality exists for mortality after stroke. Results of studies on the relation between socioeconomic position (SEP) and mortality after stroke have been inconsistent and inconclusive. Material and Methods: We studied the association between SEP expressed by income and the risk of death after stroke by merging data on incident stroke from Danish registries with nationwide coverage. We identified all incident cases of stroke hospitalized in Denmark 2003-2012 (n  = 60503).

Post-stroke lower urinary system dysfunction and its relation with functional and mental status: a multicenter cross-sectional study.
CONCLUSION: LUTD is a common problem in patients with stroke. LUTD is associated with poorer cognitive and functional status and the quality of life in these patients. We, therefore, suggest that bladder dysfunction should not be overlooked during rehabilitation of stroke patients. PMID: 30570391 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Age as a prognostic factor in relation to surgical evacuation of spontaneous supratentorial intracerebral haemorrhage.
CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL IMPLICATIONS: Neurosurgical treatment of the sICH patients is indicated only if age and potentially improved morbidity is carefully evaluated considering the STICH and this study; otherwise, we will just increase the health care burden with a number of extremely care-dependent patients.
