Reducing Time to Treatment - The Role of Stroke Neurologist as First Responder (S5.006)
CONCLUSIONS: The use of a stroke-trained attending neurologist as a first responder and stroke team leader resulted in rapid patient evaluation and faster decision regarding thrombolytic therapy, improving time to treatment and time to CT.Disclosure: Dr. Ozark has nothing to disclose. Early Palliative Care Consultation Decreases Length of Stay in Severe Stroke Patients (P1.211)
Conclusions:Early PCC in severe stroke patients decreased hospital LOS by 3 days. This may be due to prompt clarification of goals of care and hastened discharge to hospice. Advanced age, poor pre-stroke functional status, and severe post-stroke deficits and disability warrant early PCC. In addition to decreasing LOS, further study is needed to determine whether early PCC also limits futile tests, procedures, and iatrogenic complications. Ultimately, timely identification of PCC candidates may produce higher satisfaction and decreased hospital costs.Disclosure: Dr. Schloss has nothing to disclose. Dr. Tversky has nothing t...

Relevance of admission hyperglycaemia and diabetes mellitus to efficacy and safety of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients
CONCLUSIONS: Diabetes mellitus has a neutral effect on the angiographic and clinical outcomes of mechanical thrombectomy in stroke patients. It does not increase the risk of intracranial haemorrhage after instrumental therapy. It is admission hyperglycaemia, rather than diabetes mellitus, that is a predictor of poor functional status in patients treated with thrombectomy. According to our results, the patient's neurological status, age, and the outcome of thrombectomy are relevant to the functional status in the acute ischaemic stroke period.PMID:36394219 | DOI:10.5603/PJNNS.a2022.0063

Descriptive analysis of post-stroke patients in a neurological physical therapy unit
Discussion and conclusionOur results do not show significant differences between the persons < 65 years and the number of outpatient physiotherapy sessions performed, although the resulting values are close to significance. Our results suggest that the PPP is a young person, with a hemorrhagic and left or bilateral stroke.

Poor Awareness of Stroke—A Hospital-Based Study from South India: An Urgent Need For Awareness Programs
Background: Stroke treatment has reached a new benchmark with thrombolytic therapy. However, India has witnessed a tremendous increase in morbidity and mortality of stroke over the past few decades. The prime deciding factor is initiation of treatment within the time window, which requires early recognition of stroke symptoms. We wished to analyze the lacunae in the stroke knowledge in our population. This hospital-based study assessed awareness of the public regarding stroke. Methods: Two trained medical students interviewed accompanying relatives using a structured questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Statistical Packa...

The Presence of an Advanced Practice Nurse Stroke Program Coordinator Decreases Door-to-Needle Times (P5.149)
CONCLUSIONS: The presence of an APN SPC was associated with reduced median DTN times. The presence of an APN SPC, in addition to an on duty neurologist, may reduce time between door and needle, engendering improvements in patient outcomes.Disclosure: Dr. Whaley has nothing to disclose. Endovascular Stroke Therapy Results Improve over Time: The ‘Learning Curve' at a New Comprehensive Stoke Center
Conclusions: At a new community-based CSC, improved outcome occurred from year 1 to year 2, and trends towards decreased mortality, fewer complications, and improved revascularization were observed. Furthermore, the data shows that improvement in NIHSS score after EST is associated with decreased mortality following stroke in this setting, implying a net benefit.Cerebrovasc Dis Extra 2014;4:235-242

A Novel Method for Measuring Oxidative Stress in Patients with Stroke Symptoms (S52.005)
CONCLUSIONS: These results demonstrate the ability of ORP to identify oxidative stress and amount of antioxidant reserves in a stroke population. We propose ORP monitoring as a potentially useful tool in evaluation of acute stroke patients.Disclosure: Dr. Wagner has received personal compensation for activities with Genentech, Inc. Stroke awareness in Korean high school students
This study was the first to investigate the basic knowledge of Korean adolescents about stroke and evaluate the improvement of this knowledge after an educational lecture. In total, 1269 high school students were instructed on the risk factors, symptoms, diagnosis, and management of stroke. Knowledge was evaluated before education (Pre-E), immediately after the lecture (Post-E1), and during a 2-week follow-up (Post-E2), using a questionnaire. Overall, we found that students ’ knowledge increased after the educational session. On the questionnaire section pertaining to stroke risk factors, out of nine possible points, the...

Predictors of Return to Driving After Stroke (P02.265)
Conclusions: Patients with higher FIM cognition and lower extremity Motricity Index scores at admission to inpatient rehabilitation are more likely to return to driving at six months. This model could be used by rehabilitation professionals to help counsel patients and their families and focus treatment goals.

GPER expressed on microglia mediates the anti‐inflammatory effect of estradiol in ischemic stroke
ConclusionsOur studies have suggested that GPER expressed on microglia mediated the anti‐inflammatory effect of estradiol after ischemic stroke. Our studies could potentially help to develop more specific drugs to manage inflammation postischemic stroke. GPER was highly expressed in activated microglia after ischemia and estradiol. The specific GPER agonist G1 could inhibit the secretion of proinflammatory cytokines including IL‐1β and TNF‐α, which the anti‐inflammatory effect of G1 and E2 were both abolished by the specific GPER antagonist G15.
