Report on the 7th scientific meeting of the Association for the Advancement of Young Academics in Neurology (NEUROWIND e.V.) held in Motzen, Germany, October 30 –November 1, 2015
AbstractFrom October 30 –November 1, 2015, the 7th NEUROWIND e.V. meeting was held in Motzen, Brandenburg, Germany. Seventy doctoral students and postdocs from over 25 different groups working in German and Swiss University Hospitals or Research Institutes attended the meeting to discuss their latest experiments and find ings in the fields of neuroimmunology, neurodegeneration and neurovascular research. This meeting report summarizes the many diverse presentations and the new preclinical to clinical neurology research data that were shared by the participants at the meeting.

Conclusion The willingness of young males to engage in dangerous situations might be adaptive in terms of fitness maximization. The Predictive Capacity of the Buffalo Concussion Treadmill Test After Sport-Related Concussion in Adolescents
Conclusion This study found that the ΔHR (HRt minus resting HR) correlated with duration of clinical recovery in participants who were prescribed relative rest or a placebo-stretching program but not for participants prescribed sub-threshold aerobic exercise. A ΔHR of ≤50 bpm on the BCTT was 73% sensitive and 78% specific for predicting delayed recovery in concussed adolescents prescribed the current standard of care (i.e., cognitive and physical rest). Hemodynamic Differences Between Basilar Artery Fenestration and Normal Vertebrobasilar Artery: A Pilot Study
Conclusions: This pilot study suggested that hemodynamic differences between BAF and normal vertebrobasilar artery across multiple shear flow parameters. The disturbed flow in the BAF may increase the risk of thrombus formation, plaque instability, and subsequent ischemic cerebrovascular events. These should be confirmed by future studies.

Peripheral eosinophil trends and clinical outcomes after non-traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage
ConclusionThis study demonstrated that a delayed increase in eosinophils after SAH occurs and may contribute to functional outcomes. The mechanism of this effect and the relationship with SAH pathophysiology merit further investigation.
