Hospital admissions of acute cerebrovascular diseases during and after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: a state-wide experience from Austria
AbstractWe investigated hospital admission rates for the entire spectrum of acute cerebrovascular diseases and of recanalization treatments for ischaemic stroke (IS) in the Austrian federal state of Styria during and also after the first coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) wave. We retrospectively identified all patients with transient ischaemic attack (TIA), IS and non-traumatic intracranial haemorrhage (ICH; including intracerebral, subdural and subarachnoid bleeding types) admitted to one of the 11 public hospitals in Styria (covering  >  95% of inhospital cerebrovascular events in this region). Information was e...

Dual-Antiplatelet Therapy May Not Be Associated With an Increased Risk of In-hospital Bleeding in Patients With Moderate or Severe Ischemic Stroke
Conclusions: In this single center cohort, symptomatic ICH and the composite of serious systemic bleeding and symptomatic ICH was rare in patients on DAPT. Relative to single antiplatelet therapy DAPT was not associated with an increased risk of in-hospital bleeding in patients with moderate and severe ischemic stroke.

Ticagrelor of Net Clinical Benefit After Stroke, TIA: THALES Ticagrelor of Net Clinical Benefit After Stroke, TIA: THALES
A new analysis of data from the THALES trial separates out the reduction in ischemic events from the increase in bleeding events and shows the benefit outweighs the risk in a ratio of four-to-one.Medscape Medical News

Stroke in Patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices
Background: Left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are artificial pumps used in end-stage heart failure to support the circulatory system. These cardiac assist devices work in parallel to the heart, diverting blood from the left ventricle through an outflow graft and into the ascending aorta. LVADs have allowed patients with end-stage heart failure to live longer and with improved quality of life compared to best medical therapy alone. However, they are associated with significant risks related to both thrombosis and bleeding in this medically complex patient population. As LVADs continue to be used more widely, stroke ne...

Mortality in patients with intracerebral haemorrhage associated with oral anticoagulation. Efficacy of a reversal protocol and clinical follow-up (ICH-OAC project)
CONCLUSIONS: ICH-OAC has a high mortality rate, related to the use of acenocoumarol and regardless of the initial clinical situation. A lower rate of early mortality was found among patients who received ART.PMID:34328205 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7305.2020565
