Headache attributed to ischaemic stroke. An update on its semiology and diagnosis
CONCLUSION: Headache after ischemic stroke is a common symptom. It was associated with female sex, posterior circulation stroke and low scores on the National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). The current diagnostic criteria should be reviewed.PMID:37668234 | DOI:10.33588/rn.7706.2022402

Effect of Qigong exercise on non ‐motor function and life quality in stroke patients: A systematic review and meta‐analysis
ConclusionsPooled results suggested that Qigong had beneficial effects on ADL, neurological function, and life quality in stroke patients, which may provide an option for their rehabilitation.

Prognostic Value of Venous Outflow Profiles on Multiphase CT Angiography for the Patients with Acute Ischemic Stroke After Endovascular Thrombectomy
This study supports that favorable peak venous VO profiles on mCTA might be a promising biomarker in predicting the good outcome in patients with AIS after EVT.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of health utility values among patients with ischemic stroke
ConclusionThis study indicated that the utility values in IS patients kept increasing from stroke onset and became relatively stabilized at 6 months poststroke. Health utility values decreased significantly as mRS scores increased. These results facilitate economic evaluations in utility retrieval and selection. Further exploration was required regarding the factors that affect the HRQoL of IS patients.

Access to mechanical thrombectomy and ischemic stroke mortality in Japan: a spatial ecological study
ConclusionAccess to mechanical thrombectomy was estimated, and regional differences were observed. The relationship between accessibility and IS mortality is unknown; however, regardless of accessibility, municipalities with a high proportion of workers in secondary industries and a small proportion with bachelor’s degrees or above are at risk of death from stroke.

Biomarkers associated with functional improvement after stroke rehabilitation: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ConclusionThe concentration of serum BNDF, NE, ET and glutamate, and peripheral blood SOD, ALB, HB and CAT may suggest the function improvement of stroke patients.

Predictive value of the Oxford Acute Severity of Illness Score in acute stroke patients with stroke-associated pneumonia
ConclusionOASIS can effectively predict the onset and death of SAP patients and provides a potential reference index for early diagnosis and the prediction of prognosis in patients with SAP. Our findings should be considered in clinical practice.

Iatrogenic Air Embolisms During Endovascular Interventions: Impact of Origin and Number of Air Bubbles on Cerebral Infarctions
ConclusionIatrogenic AEs originating at the ascending aorta cause a  similar number and pattern of cerebral infarctions compared to those with origin at the carotid artery. These findings underline the relevance and potential risk of AE occurring during endovascular interventions at the aortic valve and ascending aorta.

Endovascular Treatment for Acute Isolated Internal Carotid Artery Occlusion
ConclusionAlthough the benefit on functional outcome did not reach statistical significance, the results for NIHSS score improvement, and safety support the use of EVT in patients with stroke due to isolated ICA occlusion.

The utility of heart-type free fatty-acid binding-protein (HFABP) levels for differentiating acute ischemic stroke from stroke mimics
This study was a prospective, single-center, observational diagnostic accuracy study with a nested cohort design. The estimated sample size was 126 patients, with a 1:1 case and control ratio. We included all consecutive patients with a lateralizing symptom (motor or sensory) or finding suggesting AIS (139 patients) who presented to ED within 24  h of their symptom onset and collected plasma at admission to the ED. After further evaluations, 111 patients (79.8%) were diagnosed with AIS and 28 with other neurological diseases (stroke-mimics).FindingsIn our study, the median HFABP levels of the cases and controls were 2.6 ...
