Ischemic stroke and purpuric dermatitis as COVID-19-related complications in a peritoneal dialysis patient
AbstractPatients on dialysis may have an elevated risk of severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and its complications due to their high prevalence of comorbidities. Here we describe the case of an 80-year-old male undergoing peritoneal dialysis with a moderate SARS-CoV-2 infection who developed a purpuric dermatitis and ischemic stroke after successful recovery from his bilateral pneumonia. Atrial fibrillation and associated outcomes in patients with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a 14-year nationwide population-based study.
CONCLUSION: In patients with ESRD undergoing dialysis, PD had lowered risks of new onset of AF compared to HD. Subsequently, these AF patients in PD group had comparable incidence of ischemic stroke but decreased incidence of hemorrhagic stroke compared to AF patients in HD group. Coronary artery bypass grafting vs. drug-eluting stent implantation in patients with end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis.
Conclusions: Among patients with CAD and dialysis-dependent chronic kidney disease (CKD), treatment with CABG or PCI with DES exhibited similar long-term outcomes. DISCUSSION: Mortality and cardiovascular disease burden have declined for dialysis patients in the United States despite an aging population that is increasingly hypertensive and diabetic. Peritonitis affects the relationship between low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and cardiovascular events in peritoneal dialysis patients

Comparison of risk of stroke in patients treated with peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Conclusions: We observed that PD patients were less likely to develop hemorrhagic stroke than HD patients, and the risk for ischemic stroke was significantly higher for PD patients than for HD patients among the non-Asian patients. An unusual combination of neurological manifestations and sudden vision loss in a child with familial hyperphosphatemic tumoral calcinosis
We report a child with hyperphosphatemia who presented with multiple episodes of neurologic dysfunction involving lower motor neuron facial nerve palsy along with sequential visual loss. He also had an episode of stroke. There was an extensive metastatic calcification of soft tissue and vasculature. Hyperphosphatemia with normal serum alkaline phosphatase, calcium, parathyroid hormone, and renal function was noted.
