Clinical Outcomes in Diabetic Patients Who Underwent Percutaneous Coronary Intervention during the Plain Old Balloon Angioplasty (POBA)-, Bare Metal Stents (BMS)- and Drug-eluting Stents (DES)-eras from 1984 to 2010.
Conclusion The incidence of 3-year cardiovascular events decreased from 1984 to 2010 in patients with diabetes following PCI, despite the higher risk profiles in the DES-era. PMID: 28049984 [PubMed - in process]

Energy efficiency and pulmonary artery flow after balloon pulmonary angioplasty for inoperable, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension: Analysis by phase-contrast MRI
Conclusion Analysis of PA energetics using phase-contrast MRI demonstrates that BPA improves energy loss in CTEPH. In addition, BPA responses can be predicted by PA energy status pre-treatment.

Endovascular prevention and treatment of stroke related to extracranial carotid artery disease.
Abstract Acute ischemic stroke (AIS) is the leading cause of premature mortality and morbidity worldwide for both men and women. Extracranial carotid artery stenosis/occlusion is responsible for approximately 11.5%% of ischemic strokes, whereas extracranial large vessel disease comprises roughly 16.6% of ischemic strokes. Carotid artery disease has been the source of significant debate among neurovascular and cardiovascular specialists, as well as vascular surgeons, as to the best method of revascularization, surgical reconstruction versus endovascular recanalization. There are different treatment modalities and t...

Successful drug-coated balloon angioplasty and single anti-platelet therapy to treat an ischaemic stroke patient with haemorrhage and acute coronary syndrome.
Abstract A 55-year-old male presented with two challenging problems, i.e. acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and a major bleeding episode. He first presented with ischaemic stroke and was treated with thrombolysis. However this was complicated by haemorrhagic transformation. He subsequently developed ACS with urgent coronary angiography demonstrating a critical stenosis in the proximal left anterior descending artery. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was deemed necessary but we were mindful of causing bleeding complications from the use of anti-thrombotic therapy. Despite the complexities, we used a novel appro...

Distinct Effects of Left or Right Atrial Cannulation on Left Ventricular Hemodynamics in a Swine Model of Acute Myocardial Injury
We examined the effects of right atrial to femoral artery (RA–FA; VA-ECMO) bypass versus left atrial to femoral artery (LA–FA; TandemHeart) bypass using a centrifugal pump (Cardiac Assist Inc, Pittsburgh, PA) on LV hemodynamics in a swine model of acute LV injury. In eight male swine, the RA–FA bypass group employed a 21 Fr inflow cannula in the right atrial (RA) and a 17 Fr FA outflow cannula. The LA–FA bypass group employed a 21 Fr inflow cannula in the LA and a 17 Fr FA outflow cannula. Both pump configurations were activated at 3,500 rotations per minute (RPMs) followed by balloon angioplasty-mediated occlusion...

Endovascular Treatment of Thrombosis and Embolism.
Authors: Goktay AY, Senturk C Abstract Deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is a common disorder with a significant mortality rate. Successful endovascular treatment of acute DVT is most likely to be achieved in patients with recently formed thrombus, (<10-14 days) with acute iliofemoral DVT. Endovascular treatment options include: Catheter-directed thrombolysis (CDT), pharmacomechanical catheter-directed thrombolysis (PCDT), percutaneous aspiration thrombectomy (PAT), vena cava filter protection, venous balloon dilatation and venous stent implantation. Current practice shows strong clinical tendency for the use of PCDT...

Transfemoral Stenting of Stenoses at the Common Carotid Artery Origin Using an Anchoring Technique With a Balloon Protection Device
CONCLUSION: The anchoring technique using a balloon protection device is useful for transfemoral stenting of stenoses at the CCA origin. ABBREVIATIONS: CCA, common carotid artery ECA, external carotid artery ICA, internal carotid artery PTA, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty

Innominate Artery Stenosis Presenting With Migratory Digital Ischemia
Conclusion: Migratory digital ischemia is a rare presentation of atherosclerotic disease of the supra-aortic vessels. It represents a challenging situation for endovascular intervention due to concern about plaque dislodgment during the procedure. A retrograde balloon-stent angioplasty following distal carotid control with an open approach may be safe and effective in selected patients.

E-020 Between a Rock and a Hard Place: The Use of Self-expanding Stents for the Endovascular Treatment of Acute Ischemic Stroke due to Recalcitrant Emergency Large Vessel Occlusion in the Era of Stent-retrievers: Single-center Experience and Early Results
ConclusionInitial results suggest that acute intracranial stenting may be beneficial in a subset of patients who present with an ELVO and who have failed recanalization by means of mechanical thrombectomy with stent-retrievers and/or thromboaspiration with large bore intracranial catheters.DisclosuresJ. P-013 Use of the Solitaire Device for Emergency Revascularization of the Superior Mesenteric Artery
ConclusionsThe techniques and equipment used for acute stroke intervention may be suitable for acute recanalization of peripheral vessels, under the right circumstances. As with many surgical interventions, a multidisciplinary approach may at times yield a novel and effective strategy for a difficult clinical problem.DisclosuresJ. Dalfino: None. A. Paul: None. J. The continuing evolution of primary PCI and clinical guidelines
Primary percutaneous coronary intervention ( “primary PCI”) has undergone a remarkable evolution over the last quarter century and is the preferred reperfusion strategy in ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) [1,2]. Primary balloon angioplasty was introduced in the early 1980s and evolved over the subsequent decade. Compared with fibrinolytic therapy, primary balloon angioplasty resulted in higher rates of restoration of TIMI 3 flow and lower rates of recurrent ischemia, reinfarction, stroke, and death [3].

One-pass endovascular treatment of intracranial atherosclerotic stenosis with a novel PTA balloon and self-expanding microstent.
CONCLUSION: The FBTS method in this series appeared to be safe and effective for the endovascular treatment of ICS. It bears the specific potential to reduce wire perforations, which so far have been linked to major procedure-related adverse events of endovascular ICS treatment.
