Correlation between left atrial spontaneous echocardiographic contrast and 5-year stroke/death in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
CONCLUSIONS: In this retrospective monocentric study, the presence of moderate/severe LASEC was an independent predictor of stroke/death at 5-year follow-up in patients with NVAF. Identification of magnetic resonance imaging features for the prediction of unrecognized atrial fibrillation in acute ischemic stroke
Conclusion Initial MRI at the time of stroke may be useful to predict which patients have cardioembolic stroke caused by unrecognized AF. Further studies are warranted to verify these findings and their application to high-risk patients.

Discussion: The present study showed that HRV could be considered a promising biomarker of a stroke outcome and its complications. However, further research is needed to establish a methodology for appropriate quantification and interpretation of HRV-derived parameters.

Is screening for AF worthwhile? Stroke risk in a screened population from the SAFE study
Conclusion. Stroke risk profiles of patients detected via opportunistic and systematic screenings were similar. Data derived from the SAFE study suggest that active screening for AF in patients aged ≥65 years in primary care is a useful screening programme with 78–83% of patients identified eligible for anticoagulation treatment according to the CHADS2 criteria.

Life-Threatening Events During Endurance Sports Is Heat Stroke More Prevalent Than Arrhythmic Death?
ConclusionsIn our cohort of athletes participating in endurance sports, for every serious cardiac adverse event, there were 10 serious events related to heat stroke. One of the heat stroke–related fatalities presented with unheralded cardiac arrest. Our results put in a different perspective the ongoing debate about the role of pre-participation electrocardiographic screening for the prevention of sudden death in athletes.

Clinically important atrial arrhythmia and stroke risk: a UK-wide online survey among stroke physicians and cardiologists
Conclusions: There is a lack of consensus on the diagnosis and management of patients with brief runs of atrial arrhythmia detected on ambulatory ECG. Further research is needed to clarify the risk of stroke in this unique population of patients.

Prevalence and impact on outcome of electrocardiographic early repolarization patterns among stroke patients: a prospective observational study
Conclusions ER is frequently found among patients with acute cerebrovascular events and is more prevalent in patients with hemorrhagic compared to ischemic events. Our study yields no evidence that ER is associated with worse outcome or mortality after stroke.

A Comparison of Atrial Fibrillation Monitoring Strategies After Cryptogenic Stroke (from the Cryptogenic Stroke and Underlying AF Trial)
Ischemic stroke cause remains undetermined in 30% of cases, leading to a diagnosis of cryptogenic stroke. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) is a major cause of ischemic stroke but may go undetected with short periods of ECG monitoring. The Cryptogenic Stroke and Underlying Atrial Fibrillation trial (CRYSTAL AF) demonstrated that long-term electrocardiographic monitoring with insertable cardiac monitors (ICM) is superior to conventional follow-up in detecting AF in the population with cryptogenic stroke.

Aerobic Training in Canadian Stroke Rehabilitation Programs
Conclusions: Most stroke rehabilitation programs across Canada include AT. People with severe physical impairment and those with cardiac, metabolic, and hemodynamic comorbidities may be excluded or not appropriately monitored during exercise. More detailed guidelines and training practices are needed to address these challenges. P wave dispersion and silent atrial fibrillation in cryptogenic stroke: the pathogenic role of inflammation.
CONCLUSIONS: In cryptogenic stroke, high PWD is partly due to systemic inflammation that increases AF risk possibly via atrial electric remodeling. These findings could also suggest inflammation as a possible therapeutic target in order to prevent atrial electrical alterations and finally AF occurrence in CS.
