Chagas Disease and Stroke: Frequency and Clinical Correlates (P3.235)
Conclusions: Patients presenting with stroke and CD had more cardiac impairment and cardioembolic events than non-CD patients. Better healthcare of stroke patients and CD is required as these patients were readmitted more frequently than those without CDDisclosure: Dr. Meira has nothing to disclose. Tick-borne Encephalitis: Stroke-like Presentation
We report a unique case of clinical symptoms and radiological findings compatible with a stroke-like inflammatory lesion in the thalamus, suggesting microangiopathy from TBEV. Our case shows that TBEV could be a possible cause of stroke-like lesions.

COX-2 rs20417 Polymorphism Is Associated with Stroke and White Matter Disease
To investigate the effect of COX-2 polymorphism and its product, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), on stroke risk in an endemic area for Chagas disease. In a separate cohort, to investigate the effect of COX-2 polymorphisms on the total burden of cerebral white matter disease.

Stroke incidence and outcome disparity in Rural regions of Southern West Virginia
Conclusions: Stroke incidence and mortality were found to be higher than expected in many areas of rural West Virginia. The higher stroke risk populations correlate with area that may be impacted by socioeconomic factors and limited access to primary care. These high-risk areas may therefore benefit from investments in infrastructure, patient education, and unrestricted primary care.

Pediatric stroke related to Lyme neuroborreliosis: Data from the Swiss NeuroPaediatric Stroke Registry and literature review.
CONCLUSIONS: Lyme Neuroborreliosis accounts for a small proportion of paediatric stroke even in an endemic country. The strong predilection towards posterior cerebral circulation with clinical occurrence of brainstem signs associated with meningeal symptoms and CSF lymphocytosis are suggestive features that should rapidly point to the diagnosis. This can confirmed by appropriate serological testing in the serum and CSF. Clinicians must be aware of this rare neurological complication of Lyme disease that demands specific antibiotic treatment. Stroke in patients with tuberculous meningitis in a low TB endemic country: an increasing medical emergency?
This study evaluated the frequency, clinical characteristics, risk factors and outcomes of patients with TBM complicated by stroke admitted to the Infectious Disease Clinic, University of Perugia Hospital, Italy from 1971 to 2010. Over four decades, 419 patients were admitted with tuberculosis, of these 30 (7.1%) were diagnosed with TBM: 20 definite, one probable and nine possible. Twenty-six were evaluable for stroke and six (23%) had stroke. The latter six had advanced stages of meningitis, two tested HIV positive, three HIV negative and in one HIV was not performed. Of seven patients without stroke tested for HIV, only ...

Accelerated Risk of Premature Ischemic Stroke in 5-Year Survivors of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma.
CONCLUSION: Not only was the stroke risk in NPC survivors higher than that in the general population, but the onset age was also 10 years earlier. Future survivorship care should include ischemic stroke as a late complication, for its proper prevention and management. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE: Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is endemic in Taiwan, and its 5-year survival is 65.2%. With the increased 5-year cancer survivors, survivorship has become an important issue. However, research on NPC survivorship is very rare. To the authors' knowledge, this is the first population-based study on long-term NPC survivors. This s...

Childhood arterial ischemic stroke in Senegal (West Africa).
Abstract Etiological factors of childhood ischemic stroke depend on the epidemiological context. The purpose of this study was to determine the risk factors, the clinical and radiologic features, and the outcome of arterial ischemic stroke in a case series of Senegalese children. We carried out a retrospective registry-based study on arterial ischemic stroke in children hospitalized in the neurology department of Fann Teaching Hospital and Albert Royer Children's Hospital, from January 2005 to December 2015. We enrolled 116 cases with an age range from 2 months to 18 years. The mean age at stroke occurrence was 71...

Small vessel occlusion and syphilis in patients with first-ever ischemic stroke
Conclusion: The current study showed that the frequency of positive syphilis serological test was higher in patients with first-ever ischemic stroke and SVD as the potential causal mechanism. This finding could be related to the endothelial dysfunction occurring in syphilis.RESUMO Introdu ção: A sífilis é uma doença endêmica, especialmente em países de baixa e média renda, com acometimento vascular descrito em grandes vasos (aortite), porém nenhuma relação clara foi reconhecida em paciente com acidente vascular cerebral, exceto para aqueles com sífilis meningovascular. CT Scanning in Suspected Stroke or Head Trauma: Is it Worth Going the Extra Mile and Including the Chest to Screen for COVID-19 Infection? ADULT BRAIN
CONCLUSIONS: The sensitivity of additional chest CT is fairly high. However, a negative result does not exclude COVID-19. The positive predictive value is poor. Correlation of chest CT results with epidemiologic history and clinical presentation, along with real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, is needed for confirmation.

Prioritizing Functional Capacity as a Principal End Point for Therapies Oriented to Older Adults With Cardiovascular Disease: A Scientific Statement for Healthcare Professionals From the American Heart Association.
ncil on Quality of Care and Outcomes Research; and Stroke Council Abstract Adults are living longer, and cardiovascular disease is endemic in the growing population of older adults who are surviving into old age. Functional capacity is a key metric in this population, both for the perspective it provides on aggregate health and as a vital goal of care. Whereas cardiorespiratory function has long been applied by cardiologists as a measure of function that depended primarily on cardiac physiology, multiple other factors also contribute, usually with increasing bearing as age advances. Comorbidity, inflammation, mito...

Risk factors for stroke occurrence in a low HIV endemic West African country: A case-control study
HIV infection is an emerging vascular risk factor associated with stroke occurrence. The weight of evidence from sub-Saharan Africa in support of this has accrued from countries with high HIV prevalence. Our objective was to assess the contribution of HIV sero-positivity to the occurrence and outcomes of stroke in a West African country with low HIV prevalence.
