Gout as a risk factor for myocardial infarction and stroke in England: evidence from record linkage studies
Conclusion. Gout was associated with increased risk of stroke as well as MI. These findings should be considered by clinicians and may have implications for preventive management of circulatory disease risks in people with gout.

Formal and informal prediction of recurrent stroke and myocardial infarction after stroke: a systematic review and evaluation of clinical prediction models in a new cohort
Conclusions: The available models for recurrent stroke discriminate poorly between patients with and without a recurrent stroke or MI which was similar to the discrimination achieved by informal clinicians' predictions. Formal prediction may be improved by addressing commonly encountered methodological flaws.

Prior ischemic stroke is not associated with worse clinical outcomes in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention.

The prognostic value of serum pregnancy-associated plasma protein A, S100 and high sensitivity C-reactive protein in acute ischemic stroke patients without heparin administration.
CONCLUSION:: Serum PAPP-A, S100 and hs-CRP were associated with stroke severity or outcome after ischemic stroke and may offer complementary information, essential for clinical decision making. Study: Manual thrombectomy increases stroke risk
Routine percutaneous coronary interventions with manual thrombectomies increase the risk of stroke compared to PCI alone, according to a new substudy published last month. The substudy, published online already and set to go to print in the European Heart Journal, examined a 10,058-patient cohort from the earlier Total study of PCI and manual thrombectomies to better understand the increase in stroke rate. The new analysis reported that the stroke difference was evident in as little as 48 hours, with 15 thrombectomy patients reporting an event versus 5 treated with only PCI. Combined oral contraceptives: the risk of myocardial infarction and ischemic stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: This network meta-analysis showed that the risk of myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke was only increased in women using COCs containing ≥ 50 µg of estrogen. Regarding myocardial infarction or ischemic stroke, prescribing COCs with < 50 µg of estrogen seems safe. When combined with the results of studies on the risk of venous thrombosis in COC users, it seems that the COC pill containing levonorgestrel and 30 µg of estrogen is the safest oral form of hormonal contraception. Stroke in Adults With Congenital Heart Disease: Incidence, Cumulative Risk and Predictors.
CONCLUSIONS: -Among ACHD-patients, one in eleven men and one in fifteen women suffered a stroke between age 18 and 64. Stroke-incidence was considerably higher than in the general population, especially at younger age. The most important predictors of ischemic stroke were heart failure, diabetes and recent myocardial infarction. Effect of oral cilostazol on acute neurological deterioration and outcome of noncardioembolic minor stroke
Conclusion In noncardioembolic stroke, combined antithrombotic therapy with early oral cilostazol in the acute phase appears to be associated with a good outcome in patients with progressive stroke.

Conclusions: We found no substantial seasonality for MI, ischemic stroke, or hemorrhagic stroke occurrence during 1977−2016. Modest peak-to-trough ratios should be interpreted after considering bias induced by random variation.
