Simplified Prehospital Prediction Rule to Estimate the Likelihood of 4 Types of Stroke: The 7-Item Japan Urgent Stroke Triage (JUST-7) Score.
Conclusions: The simplified 7-item JUST (JUST-7) score had good predictive ability and can help healthcare providers to estimate the likelihood of different types of stroke and decide the referral hospital. PMID: 32701385 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The impact of parental risk factors on the risk of stroke in type 1 diabetes
ConclusionA history of maternal stroke increases the risk of hemorrhagic stroke in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Other parental risk factors seem to have limited impact on the risk of stroke.

Relationship of the metabolic score for insulin resistance and the risk of stroke in patients with hypertension: A cohort study
ConclusionsThis cohort study suggests a relationship between METS-IR and the risk of stroke and ischemic stroke. Further studies are required to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Carotid intima-media thickness in plaque-free area, carotid plaque and risk of ischemic stroke in high-risk population of North China.
CONCLUSION: Screening of carotid artery especially for carotid artery plaques should be taken into consideration among people with high risk of ischemic stroke. PMID: 28759189 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Blood Pressure and Stroke Risk among Diabetic Patients.
Conclusions:The current study suggests a U-shaped association between blood pressure and the risk of stroke. Aggressive BP control (<110/65 mmHg) and high blood pressure (≥160/100 mmHg) are associated with an increased risk of stroke among both African American and white patients with type 2 diabetes. Genetic variation at the IGF1 locus shows association to post-stroke outcome and to circulating IGF-I.
CONCLUSION: Variation in rs7136446 of the IGF1 gene associates with post-stroke outcome in relatively young IS patients. Also, rs7136446 associates with s-IGF-I in controls but not in IS, which indicates that IS perturbs a normal genetic impact on s-IGF-I levels. PMID: 24005314 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus as a Predictive Risk Factors for Stroke
Conclusion after summarising all the studies mentioned in the paper, it can be established that hypertension and diabetes mellitus are a stroke risk factors and correlated in patients with atherosclerosis.

BMI modifies the association between serum HDL cholesterol and stroke in a hypertensive population without atrial fibrillation
ConclusionsWe found an inverse association between HDL-C and stroke only in the BMI  <  24 kg/m2 group. The finding suggested that BMI could modify the association between HDL-C and stroke in hypertensive populations without AF.

Factors associated with stroke among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in China: a propensity score matched study
ConclusionsThe prevalence of stroke was high among T2DM in China. It is of great significance to strengthen comprehensive management of health-related behaviors including smoking cessation, moderate alcohol consumption, effective exercise, 6 –8 h of sleep duration, keeping normal weight and the prevention of hypertension and dyslipidemia to have sustained beneficial effects on improvements of stroke risk factors.

Correlation between CH2DS2-VASc Score and Serum Leptin Levels in Cardioembolic Stroke Patients: The Impact of Metabolic Syndrome.
Conclusion: This pilot study revealed that leptin could be a potential biomarker for risk stratification of cardioembolic stroke in MetS patients and that heterogeneity of stroke subtypes should be considered for more refined and precise clinical stroke studies. PMID: 29225622 [PubMed]

Primary Aldosteronism More Prevalent in Patients With Cardioembolic Stroke and Atrial Fibrillation
ConclusionWe found that amongst hypertensive patients with stroke, PA was more prevalent in those with AF, or cardioembolic stroke. Screening for PA should be considered for all patients with stroke.

GLP-1R activation for the treatment of stroke: Updating and future perspectives.
Abstract Stroke is the leading cause of adult disability in Westernized societies with increased incidence along ageing and it represents a major health and economical threat. Inactive lifestyle, smoking, hypertension, atherosclerosis, obesity and diabetes all dramatically increase the risk of stroke. While preventive strategies based on lifestyle changes and risk factor management can delay or decrease the likelihood of having a stroke, post stroke pharmacological strategies aimed at minimizing stroke-induced brain damage are highly needed. Unfortunately, several candidate drugs that have shown significant precli...
