Prevalence of stroke and associated risk factors: a population-based cross-sectional study from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau of China
Conclusions The prevalence of stroke, the related risk factors and the detection rate of high-risk individuals were clarified. The prevalence rates of hypertension, overweight or obesity and diabetes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau were all higher than the Chinese average. Higher-altitude exposure may be an independent risk factor for stroke.

Urban-rural differences in risk factors for ischemic stroke in northern China
This study aims to investigate urban-rural differences in characteristics and risk factors of ischemic stroke in northern China. The present cross-sectional study was based on the High-risk Population Screening and Intervention Project for Stroke. The cluster sampling method was used to select urban and rural screening sites in northern China. By collecting information and screening the data, patients with ischemic stroke were obtained and a control group with similar gender, age, and regional distribution was selected among the nonischemic stroke patients. Then, the demographic and risk factors of patients with ischemic ...

Longitudinal Average Glucose Levels and Variance and Risk of Stroke: A Chinese Cohort Study.
Conclusions: Our results suggest that higher average glucose levels (126-139.9 mg/dl) and variance may be risk factors for stroke, even among people without diabetes diagnosis. PMID: 32373352 [PubMed]

Analysis of prognostic risk factors for ischaemic stroke in China: A multicentre retrospective clinical study-a national survey in China
CONCLUSIONS: Our study identified sex differences in stroke-related disability, recurrence, and death and attempted to explain the causes of these differences. Our study clearly showed that a large proportion of this difference can be attributed to age, socioeconomic factors, lifestyle habits and medical history, which are confounded by sex, rather than sex per se.PMID:35362370 | DOI:10.2174/1567202619666220331160024

Association between diabetes duration and 1 ‐year prognosis of stroke: A national registry study
ConclusionsLong-term diabetes duration ( ≥8 years), but not short-term diabetes duration, was associated with an increased risk of 1-year stroke recurrence in patients with ischemic stroke or TIA.

Neurological deterioration in the acute phase of minor ischemic stroke is an independent predictor of poor outcomes at 1 year: results from the China National Stroke Registry (CNSR).
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of ND in the acute phase is high in patients with MIS. ND in the acute phase is an independent predictor for poor outcomes at 12 months post-stroke onset. PMID: 24034080 [PubMed - in process]

Carotid intima-media thickness in plaque-free area, carotid plaque and risk of ischemic stroke in high-risk population of North China.
CONCLUSION: Screening of carotid artery especially for carotid artery plaques should be taken into consideration among people with high risk of ischemic stroke. PMID: 28759189 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Usefulness of cardiometabolic index for the estimation of ischemic stroke risk among general population in rural China.
CONCLUSION: The strong and independent association of CMI with ischemic stroke in females, in comparison with the much lesser degree in males, provides further insight to better stratify by sex in investigations of ischemic stroke and solidly corroborates the potential role of ischemic stroke prevention targeted at CMI. A modified Essen Stroke Risk Score for predicting recurrent ischemic stroke at one year.
Conclusions The modified ESRS increased the ability of the original ESRS to predict recurrent stroke at one year among the Chinese population. PMID: 29369004 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

A nonlinear association between resting heart rate and ischemic stroke among community elderly hypertensive patients.
Conclusions: In Chinese elderly hypertensive patients, elevated resting heart rate was an independent predictor of ischemic stroke, and the optimal resting heart rate was around 70bpm. PMID: 31829063 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
