Cardiovascular and metabolic risk factors in patients with subclinical Cushing
ConclusionsSH is linked to relevant cardiovascular and metabolic alterations, leading to worsen clinical outcomes. In eligible patients, adrenalectomy is valid and safe option to treat SH, reducing cardiometabolic abnormalities.

Circulating fatty-acid binding-protein 4 levels predict CV events in patients after coronary interventions.
CONCLUSION: In conclusion, circulating FABP4 is an independent prognostic predictor for the composite cardiovascular events in the patients with stable CHD after coronary interventions. PMID: 32859455 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Effects of different exercise modalities on cardiac dysfunction in heart failure with preserved ejection fraction
ConclusionsIn this metabolic rat model of HFpEF at an advanced stage, Ca2+ release was impaired under baseline conditions. HIIT and MICT differentially affected Ca2+ homeostasis with positive effects of MICT on stroke volume, end ‐diastolic volume, and cellular arrhythmogenicity.

Arterial stiffness and progression of cerebral white matter hyperintensities in patients with type 2 diabetes and matched controls: a 5-year cohort study
Stroke is a serious complication in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Arterial stiffness may improve stroke prediction. We investigated the association between carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity [PWV] and...

Association between the liver fat score (LFS) and cardiovascular diseases in the national health and nutrition examination survey 1999-2016
CONCLUSIONS: NAFLD is usually asymptomatic, but this large study of a large general population shows that LFS is associated with CHD, CHF, angina pectoris, cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Determining the LFS is worthwhile, as it identifies people with NAFLD, who may also be at increased cardiovascular risk.Key MessagesLiver fat score (LFS), a non-invasive marker of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), is associated with coronary heart disease (CHD), congestive heart failure (CHF) and angina.LFS is also associated with increased cardiovascular and all-cause mortality.Determining the LFS is worthwhile as it ide...

Bidirectional relationships of comorbidity with obstructive sleep apnoea
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is frequently associated with comorbidities that include metabolic, cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary and neuropsychiatric. There is considerable evidence that OSA is an independent risk factor for many of these comorbidities but, more recently, there is evidence that some of these comorbidities may predispose to the development of OSA. Thus, there is growing evidence of a bidirectional relationship between OSA and comorbidity, especially for heart failure, metabolic syndrome and stroke. Potential mechanisms of bidirectional relationships differ in individual comorbidities with fluid retention...

Associations of general health conditions with masticatory performance and maximum bite force in older adults: A systematic review of cross-sectional studies
CONCLUSIONS: Negative associations between masticatory function of older adults and presence of several systemic diseases have been reported in a number of studies while there are positive associations between masticatory function and some physical function indicators.CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE: This study provides valuable information on the association of masticatory function with general health, which draws clinicians' attention to the masticatory function of older adults who suffer from certain systemic diseases or physical dysfunction, and to the need to improve their masticatory ability to achieve healthy aging.PMID:35691...

Grading of Japanese Diet Intakes by 24-Hour Urine Analysis of Taurine and Soy Isoflavones in Relation to Cardiovascular Risks
In conclusion, the higher the J score, which corresponds to Japanese dietary habits, the lower the BMI and cholesterol levels, as well as mortality rate from coronary heart disease, but the higher the average life expectancy among the Japanese. However, these higher J scorings were associated with high-salt intake and high Na/K ratios; therefore, they contributed to high blood pressure and high mortality rate caused by stroke in Japan. These results indicate that low-salt intake should be recommended to the Japanese who are consuming seafood and soy regularly in order to maintain lower blood pressure and to extend healthy ...

Association of NAFLD with cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality: a large-scale prospective cohort study based on UK Biobank
CONCLUSION: NAFLD is an independent risk factor for all-cause mortality and adverse CVD outcomes. Based on the traditional CVD risk factor model, additionally screening NAFLD could improve the prediction efficiency for adverse CVD outcomes.PMID:36159632 | PMC:PMC9493675 | DOI:10.1177/20406223221122478

The epidemiology, mechanisms, diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease in adult patients with HIV
This article discusses the complex interactions involving HIV infection, the novel and traditional risk factors for CVD, and the antiretroviral HIV therapies which can contribute to CVD in HIV-infected people. In addition, the treatment of HIV+ patients with acute myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiomyopathy/heart failure are discussed. Current recommended ART and their major side effects are summarized in table format. All medical personnel must be aware of the increasing incidence of CVD on the morbidity and mortality in HIV infected patients and must be watchful for the presence of CVD in their patients with HIV.PM...

Metabolic syndrome and C reactive protein are associated with a reduced myocardial mechano-energetic efficiency
CONCLUSION: Non-diabetic and prediabetic individuals with metabolic syndrome exhibit increased stroke work and myocardial oxygen consumption, and an impaired MEEi, an established predictor of adverse cardiovascular events, and elevated hsCRP levels in combination with metabolic syndrome aggravates the myocardial MEEi impairment.PMID:37235788 | DOI:10.1210/clinem/dgad300
